New house is amazing.....
lighter:
We're in, and things are starting to look and feel like a home.
Scraping the ceilings and putting in new flooring (out with all the dusty carpet, ::blowing raspberry:: made the house feel twice as big and.... grand? Is that the word? I don't know how, but somehow it did. Oh oh oh.... and the kitchen turned out better than I could have imagined.
Moving the appliances to another wall was great.... until I had to think the oven/stove vent through. Not a lot of options for dual fuel slide in units with a down draft that's rated for a gas range top. ONLY ONE if you can believe it, and it's Jennair.
So, a lot of flipping and flailing then going limp.... I'm limp right now, as a matter of fact, but only bc I have my old range hooked up, and working again. Only bc I found a used unit that will work, even if it's the wrong color...... at least I have options, and the last option is to get a gas unit and put in a cool looking range hood industrial install..... mounted on sheetrock down middle of kitchen.
Since I love industrial chic.... it could work.
We enclose the back porch when contractor comes back from vacation. Today the heavy barn door was installed on the dining rook celing with up lights... looks great. I'll put flameless candles on top, and set lights on yellow.... warm, and lovely candle lit look on top.
Pantry done. Stairs done. Entrance coat rack thingy done. Oldest child's room done. My room done. My office done. drawer under the stairs done. Niche done. Electrical will be completed tomorrow morning AND I have company coming! We have some arranging, drapes, and youngest child's room to finish up without contractor, but I feel really good about everything.
That's my update. I'd love to do a few renovations a year now that the kids are older.
That's my update.

Hopalong:
What a blast.
Had I the budget, I'd be doing decor tweaks nonstop.
Probably just as well I don't!
Have fun, Lighter. But maybe step away from the HTV?
:D

Lighter, I feel a celebration coming on! Renovations can be draining, but you've gotten so much done with great enthusiasm. I'm happy for you.
Meh:
:) Cool, you should post a pic of the barn door thing.

Lighter I can't tell you what a big smile your post put on my face :) I am so, so happy for you and your lovelies, such an amazing, warm, happy HOME!!!! After all that yuck and oh my gosh here we go again stuff. One positive thing I will say about bad times is that they make you appreciate the good times so much more; how amazing to be putting your energy into creating something nurturing and caring that will last but also be flexible and change when you need or want it to. A home that will love you unconditionally. Wow :). Did you go for the secret cupboards you were thinking about at one point? I'm hoping yes :) xxx
