The New Yorker article on Shirley Jackson (author of "The Lottery")

Hi everybody,

There’s a very painful piece entitled “Haunted Houses” by Zoe Heller about the life of Shirley Jackson (best known for her story, “The Lottery”) in the October 17th, 2016 issue of The New Yorker.

Many here will identify with the struggles she faced with her mother and her narcissistic husband.  I wish she could have had the support of our wonderful group of “survivors.”

But I also felt as though the writer was minimizing Jackson's stress. By saying she couldn't have been successful without the children...it felt like another way in which Jackson was discredited. Still an interesting article.

I wish she could have been here too, Richard.
What a difference VESMB could have made in that life!
