WHY do people abuse?
Because they were abused themselves. The cycle continues.
I was reading about a case in the UK of a young male teenager who raped two very young boys. He himself had been lured and repeatedly sodomised by an older man when he was pre-teen. He described the feelings he had (to a psychotherapist) when he started to abuse others: instead of feeling sexual gratification and release from his acts, he felt as though in ejaculating he was ridding himself of the poison that his abuser had (literally) put into him.
How do we stop abuse? With each and every parent, by education, knowledge, awareness, honesty and making child-rearing and child-protection the most important items on the government’s priority list.
90% of people in our UK prisons have mental health problems.
