Update: Eyes and Mouth
« on: November 09, 2006, 07:03:20 PM »
I had a really nasty infection in my tooth, jaw and mouth. It started after the Glaucoma treatment, the Iridotomy - placing a hole in my iris with a laser. That was done on the 30th of October. My horrible symptoms began on November 1st, Wednesday. The laser clicked on the same tooth (for some unknown reason) and caused the infection to begin or caused it to escalate. Don't know which, just know it happened. I had several emergency room visits because the doctor wouldn't take care of this in the office. "it's too serious for us." Man I need a better doctor! They couldn't prescribe antibiotics for me? Instead the ER had to do that. Ridiculous! :x :o Not to mention it is costly to the health care system to be seen in the ER for a tooth infection. Oh well...

My root canal is the 16th.

Today is the first day I don't need heavy pain killers. I've taken 1/2 a Percocet all day so far (15 hours). I slept for 10 hours without needing to get up for a pain med. There is almost no swelling in my mouth and cheek. Yippee!!! I was taking 1 - 2 Percocet every 4 hours for the last three days.

And the best news - I am not nauseated!!! Taking the Culturelle has helped that. I usually get a yeast infection and diarrhea from antibiotics. That is not happening this time because of the Culturelle. I've bought enough to last 3 months, taking two per day.

My right eye is doing very well with zero symptoms. And I don't need to place medications in it after today.

Thanks for all your prayers and positive thoughts.

I'm sorry for what you have gone through and are going through... but glad that you have received the diagnosis and treatment and are pressing for the quality of care you know you deserve.

What a nightmare!!
But your attitude is one that will help you conquer this struggle.  I admire your
approach.  Don't let other's incompetence mire you down.  Keep pushing forward.
I'm making note of your attitude.  In the past I would get stuck on trying to make
dentist pay or get him to see the error of his ways, etc. What a waste of time,
energy, and solution.  I admire you and will hold this as a good model.

Thanks for sharing.  I admire your reaction.  Gaining Strength

Sallying - I've just recently learned that a deficiency of vitamin C can also cause eye problems - if you've been eating a bland diet and don't take vitamins this might be a contributor for you. I've had 'dry eye' and it looks as though a vitamin C deficiency was why.

It's something that can be fixed almost instantly... you just start taking vitamin C...

I was taking Vit C and multivitamins and special oils. However, since the doctors didn't get all my illnesses (except the tooth infection) were all related to my Glaucoma I stopped taking them because they didn't say with me very long. If you get my meaning. I stopped eating dairy products because I thought they were the culprit. When in fact all along the Glaucoma was the problem. I was having attacks as the eye doctors call them. Narrow-Angle Glaucoma is one of the only types with such symptoms - attacks. If my eye didn't bleed like it did I believe I would have been blind in my eye. Instead I have lost some sight but very little. I wear glasses now when before I didn't need any glasses and was told I never would need glasses.

I think that was the first change in my vision. The first warning sign of a pressure change and the eye doctor missed it. The next was another change in sight back to nearsightedness, another warning sign which the eye doctor missed. This is an MD eye doctor - Ophthalmologist - who should have known what the change signified. UGH! He will now because when I get through with my root canal then I will be writing many letters to people who should have known the symptoms and missed them completely.

My h remembers my visit to the ER when my eye symptoms first began. I kept covering up my head with my jacket because the light would cause me to become nauseated and it hurt my eyes. Classic symptoms of NAG. The ER doctor kept trying to put words in my mouth. "You mean it's giving you a headache." I said no and he kept pressuring me with his "truth" but I stuck to my truth which he didn't like. He didn't like it because it didn't fit with his diagnosis. Looking back I remember how arrogant that man was.

If he had seen the blood in my eye he would have declared that I had been hit. And I am sure he would have stuck to his truth on it too.

My Glaucoma specialist couldn't believe how arrogant and self-assured that doctor sounded. She also read the ER notes and records. She said I presented with very clear signs of NAG and yet the ER doctor had his own agenda and refused to treat me for the NAG. She said that was unconscionable that he would insist on his version and not treat my symptoms. She agreed letters would be warranted in this situation so that if someone else appeared with similar symptoms they could get treated for the correct condition instead of the doctors' agendas.

That is one of two reasons to write the letters - to make a difference in someon else's life. The other is to tell them they missed my diagnosis which had clear symptoms and I had them all! :o
