I find that sometimes when I'm lonely, if I listen to music I'm not so feeling...alone

Here is one of my favorites:

When they are older and telling their own children about their grandmother, they will be able to say that she stood in the storm, and when the wind did not blow her way -- and it surely has not -- she adjusted her sails.  Elizabeth Edwards 2010

Hops - I was struck by your selection of Freyda Epstein's Live at Cabell Hall.  Though I have not heard of Epstein, I attended UVA and was intrigued by her recording there.  The story of her untimely death is so sad.  I am struck by the whole thing.  So glad you listed it. - GS

hi couldbe,

Back when I was internet dating, I went to a Michelle Shocked concert with a date..  I'd never heard her before.  I was intrigued and terrified for her all at once (she is Ultra-Femist, I'd guess you could say),. I laughed and cried all at once, listening to her sing and play the guitar.

Anyway, I just love her lyrics as I can find something in them that sort of applies to our situation, being exposed to Ns - but with a funny and light twist..her songs just give me hope.

Here are the lyrics (and guitar chords) to one of my favorite songs (of course, the lyrics don't do it justice, cause she puts a funny twang on all the words):

How You Play the Game
(G) Players play the game but they play it (C) cool
(G) Lovers play the game but they play the (C) fool
(G) Kids play the game in the alleys after (C) school
(Am) Fat cats play the game but they make the (D) rules
Ah yeah, (Am) it's the gold that makes the (D) rules

You've got to (C) lose some (D) day my (G) friend
Sooner or (C) later this (D) game's got to (G) end
Sometimes you (C) win sometimes you lose
But one (Am) thing will never change
It's how you play the (D) game
It's (Am) how you play the (D) game

(G) Soldiers play the game but they call it (C) war
(G) Masochists play the game- they come back for (C) more
(G) Kids play the game 'cause that's what the games are (C) for
(Am) Losers play the game but they get (D) sore
(Am) Ah yeah, losers get their bruises they get (D) sore

You've got to (C) learn some (D) day my (G) friend
That the (C) means ain't (D) justified by the (G) ends
Sometimes you (C) win sometimes you lose
But one (Am) thing will never change
It's how you play the (D) game
It's (Am) how you play the (D) game

Don't Ask Don't Tell (Mighty Sound 2005)

If you were just going to buy one CD, I'd start with Don't Ask Don't Tell.  I guarentee you'll love it - it will make you feel like a kid again - and give you hope.  That's how it makes me feel, anyway.

I know  you guys will probably think I'm nuts....but when I'm feeling upset about what the N's have done to me I listen to

KORN - yes KORN!! ....The lead singer Jonathan Davis was abused as a youngster....He nails some of the stuff that gets to me.... it's very cathartic. Knowing how he feels makes me not feel so bad about the anger and frustration and hurt that I've felt/feeling....It's part of the reason I've moved on with my life.
