job
« on: August 14, 2007, 05:10:53 PM »
Anyone know anything about working for the Air Force as a civvie? I've applied for a job with them, received a very high rating (98 out of 100), and now cannot find anyone who will talk to me about the position - are they all filled? are they going to wait til after Sept. 30 end of fiscal year before interviewing?  I'm scared 'cuz I want and need this job. It's horrible just hanging.

I hope this reply isn't too disappointing, because I have no information about working for the Air Force.

Just wanting to lend a little support, as I know waiting for a reply can be unnerving in the best of circumstances, and it must be even more difficult considering your recent posts about your mother.

Thanks, cat. I guess I am trying to relieve my uneasiness at applying for a job where you can't even contact anyone about it.

No, your reply was supportive, and I thank you for it.

Thats so odd Towrite. I hope it all goes well for you and that this is just some protocol. That was a really good score!

ToW,
In general, what would you be doing?
Never crossed my mind that civvies can simply apply to work for the military.
I hope it's a good job and I hope you get it and thrive!

And I kow if you don't get it you'll still find another door opens.

Hi Towrite,

Oh, that waiting is awful... especially with so little information about how the process works.

Can you search online for details? Maybe a google for "civilian US Air Force hiring dates" or "interview process" ?

I'm wishing you the very best success!

Hope

I'm not positive towrite, but - I took a class on government contracting last year and the teacher was a former air force guy.  He described this fiscal deadline process in the fall that he just told as an informative and interesting story so I didn't take notes or anything.
He said that on the deadline day for applying funding to contracts, the air force (and each government entity armed forces or not) will have people whose job it is to take the dollars designated by congress and apply that funding to specific programs and contracts for the next year.  For some reason it is all very last minute, but I forget why.  The people on the east coast fund like mad until their midnight deadline, then the people in Central time fund like mad, then mountain and pacific, because they are trying to apply all the dollars designated for them to all their programs before the deadline.  Weird eh?  I remember the deadline was in the fall and it must be the one you have in mind.  It may well be that they don't know for sure what their dollars are until the $ is secured in place.  But that is as much as I know!
