Is this an open forum?

A few days ago Dr. Grossman erased a post that responded to Izzy calling an anonymous poster a clown, then topics about trolls came up.  Last but not least, a person was asked to register for using too many anonymous names.

I thought the anonymous option was a valid one here.  Pardon me for not registering but I want to know is this really an open forum or is it just for certain people and not others?  I don't want to start spilling my guts here only to find out I've broken some unspoken rule.

Dr. Grossman has said sock puppetry and the provocative use by one person of several different anonymous names is not desirable.
He has never to my knowledge discouraged the legitimate use of anonymous names.

Thanks for the welcome and the clarification that does help a lot.  Although I don't personally think calling a person who posts anonymously a clown is okay, and that wasn't corrected.

Is name calling allowed here, too?  Meaning, is it a free for all or is there a forum rule about posting that's followed?

The rules are a little hazy but..... I don't anticipate names like "Dumba** and Moron" would be at all tolerated, if that's your worry.

If Dr. G stopped to referee every small scuffle..... he'd have no time for anything else.

Sheesh.

Just wanted to give you all a heads up.

The poster who started this thread just happened to pick a screen name that is similar to mine.  This has happened before--and didnt we have a whole rash of them earlier?

At any rate, keep your eyes peeled.  I will never post as a guest, for one thing.

Thanks, CB,

I missed the spate of emails, as they occurred, during one day leading up to xmas, but, recall, that Dr Grossman deleted them, so I feel confident that Dr Grossman will look at this one also.

I gave the guest the benefit of the doubt, trying to see the good in someone, and, had hoped that the person would have signed up as a member, but, so far, that has not happened, which is a relevant statement, to me, and for me.

My opinioin on this is"

When someone new arrives like, I think it is Hops, welcome them and ask them to talk about themselves and sign off.

What waste precious time talking about how things work, what your problems are when  it could be someone who already knows,

I notice that  Whistler  is gone after chastising me for calling him/her a name, T----!

I apologized, in a way, and that was the end.

We are, and I am guilty here, giving far too much time over to the duplicate peoples.

Hope that helps you in deciding to join us on the board as a member, welcome.

Leah

That's what I did, Izzy,

and the person did not sign up and post as a member, so that is in effect, a statement, unless the person has been called away to some emergency or suchlike, again, hoping for the good in someone.

However, I wholeheartedly agree with you, all in all, it is all so very time consuming, and a bit like the "Emotional Vampire" book.

Izzi, you did not do anything wrong. Observer was a registered member and she was chased away. You have to trust your insticnts. he was behaving in a strange way.

Oh Leah,
This was not directed at you. By the time I posted I had read the others and forgot what you even said.
I was talking in general from other new people and Hops' way of dealing with a new person.

and Lupita,
I know I did nothing wrong

....except I am lengthening the thread.

I say we just put all our names in a hat, and take turns drawing one to be mad at for the week...cause it sure seems that's pretty much how things go in this Vboard place.  After the lashing out, "helpful" corrections, for you "own good," the agreeing to disagree, and the final either desertion or reconciliation, most of us end up talking civilly and calmly again.

Just what I've seen in the past, what...almost 2 years?
