Something for me to work on...(again)

There are many here on this board who live this prayer:

THE PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace,

that where there is hatred, I may bring love;

that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;

that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;

that where there is error, I may bring truth;

that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;

that where there is despair, I may bring hope;

that where there are shadows, I may bring light;

that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;

to understand, than to be understood;

to love, than to be loved.

For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.

It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.

It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.

(((Gabbin)))

That was a prayer that calmed and centered me during some very tough times.

Thanks for bringing it back to the board....

and my attention.

Thanks lighter...Just thought that I would try to generate a little self-reflection in the way that we choose to respond and act here.

One of my all time favorites, too. Thank you (((((((Lise)))))))) for posting it.

At one time, I hand wrote copies of this for each of my 4 children and kept my own copy in my Bible.

Back then, I thought it meant that I had to keep the peace at any cost.
I was wrong.
My misunderstanding of self-sacrifice threatened to further endanger my family...
and the most ironic thing of all is that it was the N who appeared on the scene to rescue me.

Oh, how perspectives change.

It's wonderful to see this prayer again through my new eyes.

Love,
Carolyn
