Sibling Relationships ~ Apples & Oranges
« on: August 12, 2008, 07:59:04 PM »
This is an excellent program, I think, for those who may be puzzling re: distant relationships with a sibling...   not about narcissism, but just ordinary human relationships (which can be troubling enough!)

On the 2nd hour of Diane Rehm's show today ~
Marie Brenner: "Apples and Oranges" (Sarah Crichton Books/FSG)
A sister tells the story of how she tried to reconnect with her dying brother before it was too late and describes what sibling relationships can reveal about our inner lives.
Guests
Marie Brenner, a writer-at-large for "Vanity Fair" and the author of "Great Dames" and "House of Dreams."

Here's my paraphrase of one line (of many comments which caught my ear, while listening) from Marie Brenner:   "When we finally swim out of the well of childhood and put our own egos aside, then we can see each other..... "

And here's a link to a NY Times article about the book:  http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/20/books/20kaku.html
This one is definitely on my Amazon wish list!

I think you'd enjoy it, Lily, if you're able to play the broadcast. Not sure whether a written transcript is available... but this program has really made impressions on me!

And...

Happy belated Birthday, dear Lily  :D   Just saw on another thread that Sunday was your day... and wanted to wish you many blessings and joys through this coming year!

With love,
Carolyn
