Title: Paying attention to the tapes in our heads
Post by: lighter on September 29, 2014, 11:57:33 AM
Has anyone been paying attention lately?

I have, and I will tell you this......

it makes sense, all of it, but not all of it's very helpfu, IMO.

Sure, realistic, but not helpful.

I'm working on replacing some of the phrases with something more..........

helpful.

Anyone else?

Golly, you're lucky that your internal tapes always make sense!

Mine sure don't.
There's logic and reason but also mad ranting and polemic and
all sorts of verbal venting. And childlike free association...

But I'm with you in that paying attention to those tapes, greeting
and observing them, is key.

I find it helps me to remember that my thoughts aren't necessarily
more true or more anything than my emotions. They're just...mental.

Nah, I haven't been paying attention. On my walk home in the rain I did try to get into the no thinking zone and I did for about 2 minutes.

Most of what fills my head up is like white noise stuff. It is not logical it is more like a scrabble board being dropped on the floor.

Paying attention.  Not liking it.

I'm definitely trying to rewrite it.

I feel like I'm mindfully engaging my tapes......

in a.......

rational dialogue.

It's new.

And helpful.
