Title: Effect of birth order on personality and intelligence--miniscule
Post by: Dr. Richard Grossman on July 21, 2015, 09:13:34 AM
Hi everybody,

The latest study on the effect of birth order on personality and intelligence debunks previous findings and states the effects are tiny.  See, for example, the following article from The Telegraph:

"Think eldest children have an advantage? Turns out birth order theories are rubbish
Eldest children have no perceptible advantage in the world, says an extensive survey that concludes that any birth order effects are 'infinitesimally small'"

Later borns (like myself) can now say to their elder siblings:  "See, I'm not as stupid as you said I was!"

I think I have heard/read that there is a correlation between birth order and choice of spouse later in life. Not sure how accurate it is.

Hi Garbanzo,

Do you remember what dimensions the study addressed re: choice of spouse?
