Hi everybody,
I'm happy to report that "Dr. Frank, Therapy App," the prologue and artistic summary (!) of my book, Voicelessness and Emotional Survival, Notes from the Therapy Underground, will be performed at the 2025 Boston Theater Marathon on May 4th (https://www.bostonplaywrights.org/boston-theater-marathon).
Take care,
Richard
P.S. For those who haven't read it, the play and my book can be found below. Remember to put your confirmation bias aside!

Me, too! I'm very excited for you, Doc G!
Just read the whole page about the marathon and loved the concept of "theater endurance." It's just so cool.
Will be thinking of you sitting in the theater and seeing your words and beautiful ideas come to life before your eyes.
I also LOVE the title, "Dr. Frank, therapy app" -- which is brilliant. And funny.
Big congratulatory hugs,
Hops

Thanks, lighter and Hops! I very much appreciate your thoughts! I wish my friend and book editor, Bert Waters, who died more than a year, was still alive so that we could sit together at the performance. Bert was the one who convinced me to use the play as a prologue because it captures the multiple themes of the book, including therapy as an art, and the character of a therapist being of critical importance. And the 10-minute play served as a summary of my painful and voiceless early experiences in the field--which, unlike Dr. Frank/Friend (a character in the play), I was able to survive. But it would have been much easier if Dr. Frank/Friend had been my therapist through it all!
The last thing Bert told me before he died was: "You can't change the world." He was right, but at his funeral service, I reiterated his final words to me and added: "But you can make a difference in one person's world--and Bert certainly made a difference in mine." Thank you again, Bert...
As always,
Richard

Gawd, I didn't read it initially and I pictured a RUNNING marathon and actors ACTING theatrically while they are running a marathon. Because running a marathon just isn't thespian enough on it's own.
Well, I suppose if you can do it make sure you get a good copy your segment video recorded and post it on YouTube. Then everybody can see it at some point in the future.
-
Hi Meh,
Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to film/video the performance according to the Marathon rules. But maybe sometime in the future I will hire actors to do just what you suggested!
Thanks,
Richard
P.S. The Boston Theater Marathon will be streamed live this year (May 4th)—but it does cost $15 to watch.

Amazing news, Dr G, really pleased to read that. Will be a great show, I'm sure. Sorry that your friend isn't around to see it with you. Expect he'd have been delighted. Hope you'll be able to let us know how it all went on the night! x

Doc, can the show be streamed afterwards or is it only available live, to view?

Hi Lighter,
I don't know for sure whether the Boston Theater Marathon can be streamed after the performance date. But my guess is that it can't--one can only stream it on the day of performance. I'll let you know if I hear differently...
Thanks,
Richard

Will have to plan ahead if it's not streaming after🐦
