Title: My Birthday...
Post by: irishrose on August 28, 2005, 08:56:55 AM
Hi All

I'm 42 today and have not received a card, gift or a phone call from my N mother.  I'm not surprised nor am I overly upset.  A wonderful work colleague who knows about my upbringing left a card, flowers and a bottle of wine on my doorstep this morning.

I've had cards and gifts from friends also and am thrilled by them.  It's true that you can choose your friends and not your family.  I am forever grateful to them...

Happy Birthday xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Have a lovely day and feel glad that you do not have to deal with your mother today.  Friends are the family we choose for ourselves...

Thank you, I'm having a lovely day, the weather is beautiful and I'm shortly going to my surprise party in the pub 'beer garden'!!!  I overheard some of the planning......

I cannot even imagine a mother missing an opportunity to tell a child how loved they are....and on a birthday! You seem like a lovely person, so it is forever her loss.
Have a great time with your "chosen" family!!!

Happy Birthday Irish Rose!

(If you like Douglas Adams) 42 is just a great age to be: the answers to life, the universe and everything become yours!

Thanks everybody - amazing that the kindness of strangers can be so moving when your own mother cannot pick up a phone.  I can laugh about it, thankfully, and I just know with 100% certainty, she is telling anybody who will listen to her today about how difficult my birth was FOR HER...........................

Trivia - I was born on the day Martin Luther King marched to Washington, August 28th 1963 and have more respect for him than I do for her.

PS: I used to post as Serena because I could never be bothered to sign in!

Hey Serena, I remember, hiya! Umm. Mothers :x. On my last birthday (43rd) she phoned me the day before and left a message hoping I was having an enjoyable day. The wrong date. Even if they do call, it’s not worth thinking that you might get a call that says: “Happy birthday my dear daughter, I’m thinking of you today on your birthday and want you to know that I love you and am glad every day that you exist. I hope that you’re having a great day today and that you know that I’ll always love you and care about you.”

Because they can’t. It’s sad but it’s the way it is. The happiness is that others can!

Happy Birthday :D (((Serena Irish Rose))).

I have had a really wonderful evening evening.  My husband, Paul, is the most loving and kindest person I have ever met - he is also the funniest.

We're home now - quite early - having decided that an Indian takeaway and a couple of bottles of wine would be perfect.  Loving thoughts to you all, with grateful thanks.

(((Happy Birthday, Irish Rose!!))) So true, we choose our friends, who love us, but not our family. Your hubby sounds wonderful.

Happy Birthday Irish Rose!

It may be a good thing your mum did not acknowledge your day.  You could have gotten a phone call with a lot of mixed lessages or a gift with an embedded critiism, or whatever.  Consider the fact that she left you alone as your present!

Thanks, we had a fantastic day and evening.  The weather is still wonderful here and I'm off to TKMaxx with my gorgeous SIL.  Thanks all for your kind words.  My sister phoned on my mobile and said that my phone wasn't working at home - it was!!!!!
