Title: The depression has lifted!
Post by: healme on May 07, 2006, 10:12:43 PM
Well, I went to my new meds Dr on Wednesday. I just can't thank you guys enough for encouraging me NOT to go back to my Ob/GYn for depression meds. You were so right!

I loved this Dr.! He listened well and determined that I have "medication resistant depression". I have tried several anti depressants over the years and although I would feel a "lift". I was still mildly depressed and exhausted. I never felt "normal" or "better".  Also, I have 4 out of the 5 "things" that classifly someone as medication resistant. I KNOW my Ob would have never caught on to this one! He would have thrown me a box of Effexor and said...you will be fine.

He put me on Effexor XR, Lamictal and Provigil. It has been four days and I feel wonderful. This must be how normal feels. I have feelings, I laugh deep to my toes and I am getting everything done that needs to be done with a busy family. And the negative, self defeating thoughts have stopped. It is like someone turned off the tape in my head!

Although, Lamictal is typically used for BP. I do not have BP. But they have found for people in my situation, it aids the Effexor. The Provigil is to give me energy and alertness during the day. He said in time, I may scale down to 2 meds but for now, this is where we are starting.

Thank you guys for putting me on the right path..

wow, that is so awesome healme.  I've never heard of combining meds like that, either.  So thank you for posting that as it's something I may have to consider if I'm ever at that point of being med resistant as well.  I've heard of this happening with others..but never heard a solution before.

hugs,
your happiness is wonderful, a gift!  Isn't it great to have found your laugh again??     YEAH!!!!!
