Title: Emotional distortion???
Post by: adrift on June 11, 2006, 02:39:41 PM
Reallyme just mentioned this on another thread.  I find this concept of "emotional distortion" very interesting and I will google it, but would anyone care to expound or discuss it?? Maybe share how it's happened/worked in your life??

Thanks!

oh, well that was a word I made up, I think.  "emotional distortion" to me is when I see someone feeling an emotion that doesn't fit with the circumstance.

Laura,
I think that is a very interesting term to use. I know I have what you would term "emotional distortion" in many circumstances. I guess those would be the times when I can't name what I am feeling and am not quite what I shoudl be feeling... or what I do feel. Confusing...

I can really relate to this too.  After the experience with Jodi, I felt that way...not sure of what I felt at times, nor even sure of what I WANTED to be feeling...the biggest thing I knew was that I felt disillusioned though; shocked that any human being could turn so cold within a short amount of time.

I usually can tell an abuse victim because they tend to say "what do you want to hear?"  "what do you want me to say?" rather than stating their own feelings or thoughts.  It is though they are so used to being controlled, that the only thing they know how to do, is be commanded, even in what they should feel or how they should respond.  It's SAD SAD SAD!~
