Title: A Thought
Post by: gratitude28 on September 14, 2006, 10:08:37 PM
This was said in one of my meetings and it's been crossing my mind a lot lately. Thought I'd throw it out there...

If there is something in your life that you are rationalizing or justifying, it is something you should think about changing.

Love, Beth

Hi Beth,

Please forgive me if you already know this, but.... when you're at the webpage which you want to copy here, right-click on the Address line, then click copy. Blink your little cursor on the post-box here, then hit Ctrl V (simultaneously) to paste. THEN ... highlite the address you pasted and hit the lil world icon up there ^^^^  (insert hyperlink).  I dunno if there's a simpler way to do it, but this works for me  :D   ((((((())))))))  You've got me curious now and I wanna see whatever it was you were trying to show us !!

Love,
Hope

Was that English you were speaking???? I just wanted my letters colored :) Alas...

Thanks CH, I'll try it later. Your directions remind me of those foldouts in magazines for yoga. How are you supposed to get into a twisted up position while reading the magazine????

XO, Hope,
Beth

yes, think about it maybe.
But I find rationalising is something I do when I feel I can't change something right now, to make it more acceptable to me.

I can tell you what is something I have discovered about change recently- the things which jump out at me and make me angry or want to close the book etc. I am starting to look at those reactions and work them out.

But I think that's because I can, I've moved on with other stuff and it's freed me up to look at that. If my life was still in a big mess I would probably just shut the book *snap* and let it go for now...

I agree with this, Beth.  It isn't necessarily an assertion stating that there IS something wrong if a person is rationalizing or justifying.  It is, however, asking us to be open to the possibility that whatever we are rationalizing or justifying may not be something that is good for us or those around us.  Change would be in order, then.

Although, I have been known to openly acknowledge some of my less than flattering behaviors and rationalizations and do a big, fat nothing in regards to changing them.     You still need to have the courage and perserverance to tackle the problem and effect real change.
