Hi all,
Would anyone who can, please send me empowering confident and positive thoughts at 11:00 AM EST tomorrow, Wednesday?
I have my first job interview that I actually feel hopeful about.
(It's in a dept. I dislike but it's very large so I know in any building full of people, I'll find a few friends. It would be dull but survivable and I would be VERY VERY glad to get it.) More details if it develops but I'll jinx it if I fixate.
Back to the fascinating reading...just a quick detour.
many thanks,
Hops

There once was a lady named Hops
Whose job search let out all the stops --
So full were her coffers
With fantastic offers
She picked out the cream of the crop's!

Go Hoppy Go....
My advice would be remember it's a two way thing.... you are finding out if they are suitable, if it's somewhere that you would like to work, just as they are finding out if you are suitable.
Anyway, how could they not offer you the position, you're the best person for the job right?

Hey all,
You all are a really good team o' steam.
Those thoughts prayers wishes and vibes reached all the way...I know it.
It went very well. I should know by Monday or Tuesday!
The upside, which is in fact very very very up, is that it is a secure job that I feel truly capable of learning and doing (and already have the skill set they need). And the people seem nice. The boss is ex-military, so I'dhave to restrain my inner hippie/poet/Madwoman of Chaillot, sigh. But I pretty much gave up being Paid to Be ME a long time ago.
The downside, which I would have to cope with, is that it is boring. VERY boring. And it's in a cubicle where you have your back to the opening so people can walk past and look at your monitor so I couldn't hop in here. :( Basically, I'd have to stay on task, which isn't easy. But...there are headphones...and I could take walk breaks (it's in a pretty area). Whoops, I'm back to upsides.
All in all I gave my best and felt pretty sure the guy liked me. He even talked to me afterward and when I probed about my chances he suggested that the previous person was super young and "full of enthusiasm" and then he said, and on the other hand "she's bubbly and full of enthusiasm". He's not a lot younger than I am, and a war vet, so I think he's not looking for bubby...maybe he has a more pragmatic attitude about things.
They have 4 more people to interview, so I won't fixate. I'll keep you posted!
Thanks again for all the support,
Hops

Sounds great, Hops!
I really admire your attitude, too.

YYEEAAAA!!!!!!
Sounds good to me!!!!!
Are you conflicted about the job? My job is both boring and fulfilling... I have learned a ton about databases and spreadsheets and how to write them and all. Not too exciting, but useful for sure...
Plus a pretty place to walk... sounds nice... benefits too, you said...
Can't wait to hear what you decide... I think you have a STRONG chance!!!

I pretty much gave up being Paid to Be ME a long time ago.
Did you get that book yet? ( 'Do what you love and the money will follow' )

Thanks, Write...a good reminder...
but I can't take it on again just now.
Will be a few months (one until my job's over, one to get over the shock) before
I can put the energy (I'm drained) and time (huge deadlines in current job)
into that deep examination.
I did read this book years ago. I'm unsure whether it's true, though I used to be more optimistic...
A disappointing note on the job I interviewed for today...they sent a pre-test which makes obvious that you have to know how to do sophisticated financial analysis. This is not in my brain. (It had not been clear from the job description.)
So I doubt very much that this one is THE one.
But I will stay open...
thanks all very much,
Hops

Dear Hops ,
I am keeping my fingers crossed as well.
I am sure the right position will come along.
You are in my thoughts.
