Post by: gratitude28 on November 16, 2006, 09:01:46 PM
Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.

Wilde about Wilde

Sadly for our dear Oscar he did not heed his own good advice and after the "fall"  Melmoth receded into a life of absinthe and his shadows................

I love Wilde's writing and see nothing wrong or to judge about equal homosexual relationships; 'pederasty' I do not approve of though, nor - it is too much on the side of abusive and unbalanced relationships.

Write ,

I also love Wilde's works and can not believe he was sent to prison and the letter he wrote Boise Douglas as to be beyond any prose I have read.

His sexual preferences make no difference to me and the fact he loved his wife Constance so well and loved his children so much shows his heart was good .

Never was a man so gifted and rose to the height of fame "the light side of the garden " only to fall by circumstance or by the secret wish to experience the dark side.

I do not know if even Oscar knew. This man along with Tennessee Williams I love so dearly ....also their works.

Love to you,

moon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also adore Tennesee Williams! Gosh, we need to spend an afternoon over coffee and talk Literature... Gosh, was Tennesee the saddest , yet deepest, man around? He was relentlessly pursued by his personal demons and never was able to escape them for long...

I need to read a biography of Wilde... I have read short histories of him, but would like to know the entire detail. It just amazes me that even a  few of his words can be so profound.

Funny, this post turned out way differently than I had thought... I thought it would prompt a discussion on the topic... but, honestly, the words are so deep, and maybe so clear, that there's nothing left to say.

Love, Beth
