Feeling is potentially there and does show up on occassion, but in a distorted way.
Usually there are two forms: irrational rage and foolishly and tearfully sentimental; weepy; emotional
the rage is an outbreak of wrath that is distorted and the sentimentality and weepiness is the substitute for love
Interesting to note: one cannot totally supress or deny fear wtihout also supressing anger as well. Sometimes a person seems able to show anger but not fear or sadness. Usually this form of anger is shown without feeling in the person. It is a defense that is meant to frighten the person, not showing genuine emotions. By getting angry, the person denies his own fear..
A true feeling of anger comes from a feeling of having been hurt. If a person denies the hurt, then there is nothing to be angry about. If a person cannot feel his own sadness, why would he be angry? The first approach with N patients is to help them get in touch with their own sadness. This can be VERY HARD TO DO!
