I'm in the process of taking my final two courses in my online graduate school and, as this course has progressed, I am getting the sinking feeling that one of my classmates in an N. When she first introduced herself to the rest of the class, she bragged about how her writing is going to be "inspirational to everyone else" (Red Flag Number One?). Today, my project group got a message, addressed to the group as a whole, congratulating us on our project and that we are displaying great teamwork. I responded with a "Thank You" to the instructor, which I thought was the appropriate thing to do. This suspected N posts the following to me: "What about me? I feel left out!" (Red Flag Number Two?) I had such a visceral reaction that it's all I can do to be civil to her. The rest of the time, I do not respond to her postings if I can help it, especially when she keeps attempting to focus the class on herself instead of on the project we are required to work on. Sheesh!!!!

Bones,
Flags? Yikes!!! Looks like fourth of July fireworks! I'd say she's an N.
Good news is--she doesnt have anything you want! Yay! No tug of war. Just let her have her little pedestal and all the things that go with it. In a few more weeks, you'll have a graduate degree.
CB, dancing around (the cha-cha) in celebration!

Thanks, CB! I refuse to be her N Supply as I have better things to do with my time. This is not the first time I've encountered an N when I was taking a college class. Several years ago, I was taking a course in group communication where we were also assigned to small sub-groups to work on a final project. This one individual kept trying to tell the rest of us that she was "large and in charge". As the group I was in was brain-storming what to do for our project, this Nindividual kept shooting down every suggestion with sarcastic comments and labeling the person making the suggestion as "stupid"! I finally got fed up and asked her that if she didn't like our suggestions, what ideas did she have to put on the table? She replied: "You all come up with an idea and maybe I'LL APPROVE IT!" At that, I looked her right in the eye and told her to "F!@# OFF!"

Thanks, Stormy!
I could probably do a good job where you work, even if it drives the Ns crazy! :D

How I wish I had your capability to assert yourself.
I am trying, but I just run into nice people, so far.

That's hilarious! You should ask her if she has her acceptance speech written yet? Sounds like she is a shoe-in for a literary award, eh? Hang in there, Bones. Just a couple more classes and you are finished.

Thanks, ANS!
Fortunately, I only have to put up with her shenanigans until about March! If she does behave any more obnoxiously in the courseroom, I can always have a private word with the instructor for input on how to appropriately handle it.

don't worry too much, Ns can't hurt you unless you have to have a personal relationship with them ( boss or partner or friend etc )
There's a lot of immodesty about isn't there?! I usually take with a pinch of salt someone who announces up front they are going to change my life- it's never quite in the way they imagine it works...
Apart from her are you enjoying the class?

Thanks, WRITE! I'm enjoying the class quite a bit even if it is a challenge. As soon as I finish here, I'm going to be heading to class.

Just an FYI:
When I went to class after I was here, I did not see any more messages from the N directed at me. I'm getting ready to head back to class to see what awaits today.
