My son and my best friends daughter were born in the same hospital same day 2 hours apart.
They joined at the hip very close.
My son is your typical Irish looking Kid right down to his flaming red hair. His best friend is a beautiful little girl and Afro American.
My friend was asking her daughter about Black History Week in School and what she has learned. She proceed to tell her everything she has learned.
My friend said to her are you the on black person in your class?
She replied Yes I am.
And added that my son (G) was the only orange one in his.

Awww. Don't you wish that innocent understanding of color would LAST?

My son was talking to me about MLK and said it sure was a good thing that he came along in the world. I agreed and asked him what he thought was most important about MLK. He said without him, his Dad and I could never have married! (My husband is Mexican and dark!) My daughter calls her daddy black, me strawberry and my son caramel. I am happy that we have always lived in areas with many people of all colors and backgrounds and many interracial families (actually, I hate to even use that word as I don't think race really exisits, but I am not sure how else you can refer to it). Maybe inter-hue?

What is MLK?

thanks Beth--now I feel silly--
One time my daughter, about age 3, stood in front of the mirror, as I fancied up her hair. I said "Gee you have pretty white teeth."
and she said, "Thank you, and you have pretty yellow teeth!."
out of the mouths--------

Alas, they are too truthful. My daughter says she loves her big, squishy mom. Not exactly the way I want to be described... but what do you do? Maybe if I looked like Angelina Jolie I'd be too bony for her ;)
-
Inter-hue, I like that.
My older son when he was little at Thanksgiving time drew a picture of the ship the Mayflower. He showed it to my mom and they hung it on the frig. He turned looked at the ship then my mom and said. Nanny did you know the pilgrims?

When my D was about 2 and a half, we had guests. After listening to the adults' animated chatter for a while, she had to pitch in. So she climbed on a stool and said she wanted to sing a song. We said, sure. Everybody looked. She sang, right through:
ABCDEFG, HIJKLMNOP, QRmy sunshine, my only sunshine, etc..

Hops--
That was a medley! :D

Just for fun, I seem to have a roundness hangup. I also thought, when I was a kid, that the words "round yon Virgin Mother -- and child' [in Silent Night] meant that Mary was still a little bit zaftig, after Jesus was born.
:-) :-) :-)
[And don't ask what I thought of 'holy infant so tender and mild' - all my little Catholic friends were going to their First Communions and I thought that had something to do with transsubstantiation, altho I didn't know that word for it then.  ]

My god, no wonder I've turned out the way I have.... [hysterical giggles]
-
Daughter also sang, "lay thee down now 'undressed'-------instead of "and rest" (Brahm's Lullaby
Lord's Prayer) said "deliver us 'to Mable'-----instead of "from evil"
izzy :D

Hmmm. I never thought about the words "Round yon mother...." Are thsoe the words?????
Well, I have been getting firmer lately... really enjoying gym time and found a perfect time to fit it into my day. Hubby has turned into a fitness guru, so we are all riding the wave. I have always loved working out. Just lost my way for a while!!! And, as I get firmer, I get a football=players rock-hard thighs and buttocks :) Wish I had appreciated them when I had 'em that way!!!
What a cute medley, hops!!!
I love the cricket story!!!! I do all those little lessons too CB!!! Our newest learning lesson has been on birth, as Ms. Piggie is due to deliver babies any day. I think she has three babies. (Guinea pig). We take her and hold her in our laps with our hand under her belly and we can feel them kick and play inside. Did you all see those shows on Nat'l Geo. about babies in the womb???
The Mayflower... Ha ha. My kids are still trying to figure out time. They think the 80s was a century ago!!!
Thanks for the sweet stories!!!

"tender and mild" sounds like a cooking term...
-
So help me, here are the words:
Silent Night, Holy Night!
All is calm, all is bright
round yon Virgin Mother and Child.
Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace -
sleep in heavenly peace.
It ain't a literal translation. Here's the German:
Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht!
Alles schlaft, einsam wacht
Nur das trauten Hoch Heilige Paar,
Holder Knabe mit Löckigem Haar
Schlaf in Himmlischer Rüh!
Schlaf in Himmlischer Rüh!
And my feeble attempt to translate to English:
[Silent Night, Holy Night!
All is sleeping; alone awake [or on watch]
Are only the High Holy bridal pair;
[the] Beautiful Boy-Child with curly hair
Sleeps in heavenly peace,
sleeps in heavenly peace.]
Nothing tender and mild there, not in the cookery sense anyway. And it's nice that both Mary and Joseph made it into the original version, watching together over their sleeping babe...
and as a curly girl myself, I like the idea that Jesus had curls too ;-).

Izzy, that version of Brahms' Lullaby is priceless.
Did anybody else here ever pledge a Legion to the Flag and wonder where the heck they were going to find any soldiers if Uncle Sam ever asked them to honor that pledge? I spent most of second grade worried sick about that.
-
LOL,How about Calvin's rendition (from Calvin and Hobbes)
I pledge allegiance to Queen Fragg and her mighty state of hysteria.
Some things just shouldn't be translated (or ya gotta pick someone with some skill to do it!!!). Kinda funny, though!
