"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these."

I'll look into myself and say why am I hitting the reply button?
Because this thread bothers me.
Because it was posted in the midst of 'stuff'. And it's not just an innocent quote, it's a quote meant to speak to certain people, I guess. Or is it a put-down?
It's a hidden thing maybe. Meant for those who understand who can nod and wink to themselves? I feel left out. But most of all, I kept staring at this quote and thinking "what does it mean? I don't get it."
What does it mean please? Does it mean we should never be intolerant, unsympathetic? Does it mean everyone 'deserves' good treatment, no matter how badly they treat others? What does it mean? Write, I'm not winding you up, I'm not joking, I really do not get this. I feel stupid!
Please speak frankly, openly, honestly. Tell me it's none of my business/whatever!Thank you! I'd better use my new sign off!

There are so many SENSITIVE people on this board! OMG - nobody can put anything on the board, no matter how innocent, and a couple of you people go crazy! GET A LIFE!! Go harrass someone else - there are people here who are really trying. Voicelessness doesn't mean you make a negative remark about EVERYTHING that comes up to show you have a voice. Give me a break!

write,
I liked your quote. Thank you for sharing it. Here's one I like so much I carry it in my pocket sometimes.
"The heart of most spiritual practice is simply this: Remember. Remember who you are. Remember what you love. Remember what is sacred. Remember what is true. Remember that you will die, and that this day is a gift. Remember how you wish to live."
From How Then Shall We Live?: Four Simple Questions That Reveal the Beauty and Meaning of Our Lives by Wayne Muller

Dear Write:
I liked your quote very much.
I too don't understand what is going on with this board, I see a nice quote posted for our edification, nothing more, not something sinister or with ulterior motives for having done so.
Thank you for taking the time to post this.

Nothing pointed about it: I'm very into quotations.
( for those into Myers-Briggs I'm INFJ personality type, we LOVE quotations! )
I've quoted things many times here.
One thing I am finding as this journey unfolds is a need to balance up the aspects of life: the physical, emotional, intellectual, creative and now at last the spiritual.
Poetry particularly is as essential to me as looking at the birds and trees or eating well, it's a huge part of the whole me.
eg. this Yeats:
HAD I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
Beautiful. Uplifting.
"The heart of most spiritual practice is simply this: Remember. Remember who you are. Remember what you love. Remember what is sacred. Remember what is true. Remember that you will die, and that this day is a gift. Remember how you wish to live."
Thanks clj, that sums it up perfectly.
It feels really good to remember who I am and what I really want to be and do. I forgot for a long time.

You guys up there - please stop hurting people. Please? I just don't understand why you need to keep doing this but I do now see what you are doing. If you keep putting people down, aren't you just shutting them up? Have you lost your own voice for sharing good things?
Violating, violent anger
Has a hidden agenda
Attacks to hurt
Seeks to discredit the other as a person
Manipulates the truth
Is a weapon
Hides behind innocence
Is righteously superior
Assumes another's motives
Needs a villain
Honest, liberating anger
Is straight
Wants to discover the truth
Seeks the relief of honest self-expression
Expresses the hurt and anger
Confronts
Seeks to expose
Demands accountability
Chooses not to hide
Is adamant

PS This abuse is making me feel ill. Thanks for the quote, Write. You posted while I was writing. ENFP!
