Title: I'm hurting...my dog was killed by a car today
Post by: reallyME on June 18, 2007, 06:05:27 PM
I just got off the phone with the dog shelter.  My dog, Matty was killed by a car.  My N husband left the door open, since he feels entitled to not follow our "family rules" and CLOSE IT BEHIND HIM...and the dog got out, ran into the busy street and was killed.  He was 1 year old.

I FEEL SO HURT AND ANGRY INSIDE!  I called my spir Mom and she was wonderful.  She felt bad with me and comforted me, even though her daughter was there and needed her time.  That meant more than words can say, since X, when my kitten was dying in my hand, responded with "you have MORE don't ya?"

Gosh it feels good to have someone care when I'm hurting.

Thanks for listening.

~Laura

I am so sorry. At 1 year, Matty was still a puppy and to think the N was involved in what happened. Pure carelessness.

I had a puppy that was killed by a car and he was less that 3 months old. I had told my daughter to keep him on the leash, when out for their 11:00 run. She took off his leash and he ran in front of a car.

Boy! That was difficult to get through.

Yours will be too!

My sympathies

I'm so sorry, Laura.  What a shame.  And how sad that an N's carelessness caused such pain.  They truly don't care.

Something like that happened to the family box turtle. His name was Chewy. He would like to hibernate in the winter months (whatever that is in Florida..) So we would put him under the porch, but he would require supervision. One easter afternoon, when we were sleeping the father put the turtle in his hole and left him there. When I woke up the turtle was gone. A few days later there was a smashed turtle in the street.

Please, I implore you, for the love of God, don't put any more animals in harm's way by bringing them within range of this indifferent monster.

Oh, I am so sad.  My husband would be off the chart with grief if his dog got killed - they are like one of the family.  I am soooooo sorry!

Dear Laura,
I am so very, very sorry. My H did not kill my dog, Henrietta. However, I told him not to take her for a walk on construction sites. My S told me that he "mocked " me and took her anyway. She had to have a toe amputated because of  this..
This is NOTHING compared to losing your fur baby.    Henrietta is as precious as any person to me ( probably more). I am sure that your dog was this  precious to you.
I am so very, very sorry. It is so awful for you to  have to deal with this blow by your H on top of  everything else
When my dog had to have her toe amputated, my H never even apologized. When I called him on it, he started screaming at me for nagging him.
I will be praying for you tonight.. dear                                       Love Ami

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Laura,
I know you loved Matty and he loved you back.
And as rough as your life's been lately, you needed that comfort.

I'm terribly sorry...hon, it is the cleanest grief there is.

I'm sorry your husband forgot too. I imagine he doesn't know how to apologize, but I'm sure he didn't mean it to happen.

Little Matty, furry fella, he's okay ... and you deserve the love of a thousand pups, girl.

Laura, I am so sorry your puppy died. Pets mean the world to people, and those who never have pets to share their life with them never seem to understand that they are grieved for just like people are. I hope you look after yourself well for a few days, while you deal with this, as it'll take it out of you just now.

Wow, Hoppy...some Matty stories...well, I'll have to ask my daughter for some of those, as it was technically her dog.

I can share some things about him though.

He was a chow-shepherd dog, brindle in color (they call it red at the shelter)...he had a white snout with black freckles on it.  His paws were white with tan freckles.  He was too pretty to be a boy dog, really.

Matty Dog was a jumpy, friendly pup.  He constantly jumped up on everyone to kiss them.  We have pics of him but I'd have to try and email them to anyone who wants to see.  I will also send you pics of my girls if you like.  It requires trusting me enough to send me your email address though, and, I know that's hard for some people on the list and it's fine if you prefer not to.  I tried to post a photo of him here, but it wouldn't work.

If any of you are one who'd like to see some photos, please send me a place to email them to.

~Laura

As intelligent as ReallyME can maybe look at times, this poem went wayyyyyyy over her head :)

Could someone please explain the meaning of it.  I'm sure if I understood it, I would really appreciate it so much the more.

I'll give it a quick go, RM...I can go on and on but I just took an Ambien! For me, with poetry, understanding it intellectually is just one piece. The great joy is when a poet's SOUND (read it slowly aloud to yourself, pausing gently at the end of each line, and wherever punctuation suggests) in some way echos the meaning. Here, the short, rhythmic lines echo for me a kind of loveliness. It's not one of those long ponderous lecturey poems. It's simple, soft in its shape. It has short lines, a gentle shape to the eye, too.
Hugs,

----------------

The Heaven of Animals

Here they are. The soft eyes open.  [a loving image, gentle, Bambi-like...]
If they have lived in a wood
It is a wood.                               [they feel safe, familiar]
If they have lived on plains
It is grass rolling
Under their feet forever.              [safe, familiar surroundings, eternal...]

Having no souls, they have come,
Anyway, beyond their knowing.     [hmm. No souls? But here they are, in heaven]
Their instincts wholly bloom         [they are completely fulfilled in their nature]
And they rise.                            [they awaken from death--but they're beyond it]
The soft eyes open.    [now their eyes opening has more drama, omg, they live again...]

To match them, the landscape flowers,  [the land, the plants are fulfilled too...ecstasy of beauty]
Outdoing, desperately
Outdoing what is required:               [more beauty and life than we can even imagine]
Thr richest wood,
The deepest field.           [extraordinary beauty of nature, but even moreso--hence the "est"s]

For some of these,
It could not be the place
It is, without blood.            [acknowledging their true nature. w/o it they wouldn't be animals]
These hunt, as they have done
But with claws and teeth grown perfect,

More deadly than they can believe.    [if they were predators, they are superbly so in heaven]
They stalk more silently,
And crouch on the limbs of trees,
And their descent
Upon the bright backs of their prey   [the prey's vulnerable backs are made sacred by "bright"]

May take years
In a sovereign floating of joy.    [there's no violence, it's a timeless leap as they hunt]
And those that are hunted
Know this as their life,                   [the prey aminals aren't upset about being prey]
Their reward: to walk

Under such trees in full knowledge
Of what is in glory above them,        [they know the predator awaits]
And to feel no fear,
But acceptance, compliance.
Fulfilling themselves without pain    [but there is no pain or suffering in their role as prey here]

At the cycles center,
They tremble, they walk        [this line suggests willingness to be vulnerable, to move toward it]
Under the tree,
They fall, they are torm,            [they are wounded by the predator, but there's no pain for them]
They rise, they walk again.         [they are not killed as we know killing, they are always resurrected]

Laura I am so sorry to hear about your little dog.

I am very new to N, but it is now clear why my NH never liked animals.  Just another one of those many traits we the rest of the world have to put up with.

Was your H remorseful at all, or like mine and not give a crap?

PomPom,

My husband told me last night that he keeps thinking that maybe the dog is still alive, but the dog warden and shelter told us he was killed, cause they hate our dogs running around the neighborhood.

Since we didn't see the dog's body or the car that hit him, we have no proof of anything, but it seems logical to me that they'd be telling the truth.

H also told me that he had a dream that Matty was in a kennel in the clouds of heaven.
