The 2002 World Health Organisation Report on Violence and Health.
The 'WHO' commissioned a study and a whole bunch of hospitals around the world participated, including one near where I live.
The wash up was that 8% of males and 25% of females up to the age of 18 years experience sexual abuse of some kind.
The report is available at
www.who.int/health.topics/en/
In the alphabetical index go to 'C' and select 'Child Abuse'. The complete report can be downloaded.
At our particular participating hospital, the female numbers were a staggering 27%, but the numbers averaged out across the hospitals to 25%.
If that's not an epidemic I don't know what is!!!
Sitting at a school function last week I was looking around at the 300 or so young girls there and thinking, "My Goodness!!!! if those figures are right, at least 75 of these babies have been, and are being sexually abused in some way or another." :x :x :x
I cringed and ached and got so angry and sad, I went home and shot off a bunch E-mails about these stats to some local and state 'dignitaries'. Haven't heard back from any yet.

Hi CG,
My first thought...then some frustrated pondering...then back to my first thought: I feel so damn helpless about this.
I mean, like I said in another post, I've thought about becoming a Big Sister, but that's just one kid - and it still doesn't put me in a position of stopping something, really.
So instead of sitting here in my frustrated box twiddling my thumbs...does anyone else know of ways - even if small - that can help prevent/stop/lessen this???
