For anyone who needs practice still... today's (been a long time! Yea!!) conversation:
"I had a HUGE spider in the garage!!!"
"Oh you and your spiders. It was probably trying to bite you." (Twenty more sentences in this vein - cruel taunting...).
"Your granddaughter got a cast."
"Really? You should have called. I mean I should have called. I just always FORGET I can call you." Lame excuse, used for the hundredth time... she could have called there, has no desire to call here. Feels she has justified her lack of attention.
"I took the kids roller skating. They loved it."
"I LOVE roller skating. I am so glad it is coming back. Everyone should roller skate. I went twice a week at least." Daydreaming about how she was a queen on roller skates and people probably still remember her out there on the floor.
"The kids principal committed suicide and they never said what was wrong with him. He has been out sick for a while. The lack of information has led to a lot of speculation."
"I HATE the word CLOSURE... that's all the pop-psychologists talk about... but if you don't know what's wrong it's hard to lay it to rest." She is smater than all the psychologists and doctors and would not use the terminology, although she just used the same idea without the word.
So, my adorable mother is a loving grandmother who just forgets to call her grandkids because she has no job and nowhere that she goes, but she thinks we still live abroad. She was a queen of the roller rink, and still would be if they had a rink in the damned place she lives (yeah, right). She is an expert in psychology and life cycles... Am I a lucky daughter or what?????
Anyone else have any "special" parents or spouses, lol????

Shunned... that is even MORE of them not hearing you. Amazing that they even talk to other people - why would they need to,since they already "know" everything we mean, and will say, and think. Amazing.

My Brother refers to our Mother as "the all seeing eye, the oracle, with all knowledge --- she who must be obeyed"

Leah,
That' a hoot - funny not funny, you know????? Don't you love having everything you say answered with an "I know" or a sentence on how they LOVE that or know all about it, etc????? Do they really feel they are in a conversation????

I think my mother would find children unappetizing. She would prefer pheasant under glass... unless someone she considers "elite" starts eating children. Blech...
