Hi everyone,
I wanted to remind people of two things:
1) When board members post anonymously or under assumed names (e.g. without signing in), they are not anonymous to me. I have purposely allowed people to post without signing in for two reasons: some people want to post a single question or reply without becoming involved in the board machinations, and some people need to post from work without signing in. The use of this feature to post as a second hidden identity (so called "sock puppet") is often destructive to the integrity of the board, and in the future I may delete such posts.
2) Locking the current thread means that I will lock and/or delete any continuation on other threads, old or new.
Best,
Richard

Hi everyone,

Now THAT tickles my funny bone! :D
Thank you so much for the reminder, Dr. Grossman... that is too kewl! Somehow, makes me feel alot safer, just knowing that you know who's playin shadow games. As always, I'm eternally grateful to you for all your efforts to keep this a place for learning and growth.
Sincerely,
Carolyn

not funny to me...just confirmation of what i already knew. Dr G is the board oWNER, so OF COURSE, he can see other people's names when they post. That makes perfect sense and is a safety feature for those who think people are "getting away" with hiding themselves.
Dr G, almost acts as a sort of god here if you think about it. Just as people think they hide themselves from the CREATOR, same thing with Dr G...he sees ALL.

Dr. G(od) - how am I doing? (dare I ask) :D

Idiom:
From the sublime to the ridiculous

From ridiculous to sublime...
And.... on an entirely different note.....That was very brave, bean.

I think a huge part of becoming a good person is being completely honest. When one is playing games, one is not being honest... with herself or others. Anything I have had to say here has been in my own name. And always will be.
Likewise, I think those who need help (there are some in very desperate situations - for example, trying to flee a vindictive, dangerous spouse) will feel safer knowing that they can come here to find a haven for discussion and help.
Thank you, Dr. Grossman, and the helpful dedicated members of the board.
Love, Beth

It is nice to know that there is this "safety" feature. I am glad that Dr G "put the subject out there" b/c it is obvious that it was happening.
I have never done it.Maybe ,I was afraid that I would not be "slick" enough(LOL)
Anyway, Dr G IS a safety feature in himself. That is important and needed , of course. Too bad that we do not have a DR G to carry around in our 3 D life(LOL) Ami .

From the 1st posting last week - with all honesty, I genuinely thought that PAPS was Dr G in a professional capacity.
You have my permission to have a  at my expense, truly, I don't mind, as I am the first to laugh at myself.
Love to all, Leah
On 1st Edit: No response is required to this honest admission, thank you.

Hmmm.... I have to say.... it crossed my mind that Dr. G might be posting, at some point, under some other name.
-
IMO, He is honest and up front as I see it, He would post simply as Dr G. Ami

With respect, and in particular, with genuine respect to Dr G in mind, in my post of honest admission I did clearly * say * ....
"No response is required to this honest admission, thank you"
Therefore,
my sincerest apologies to you Dr Grossman.
Respectfully,
Leah

Y'all are lucky I haven't appeared in my saggy birthday suit,
claiming to be the Madwoman of Chaillot. YET.
Judge not lest it take up so much time we never get to the good stuff....
Thanks, Doc G.
love and gratitude,

Dr G,
Often I wish the board software would still show the "sock-puppet" post(s) to the person who originally posted (errr, tried to post), but not the rest of us. Eventually this might clue that person in that the behavior was inappropriate and they'd be left staring at it. Messy for them but not the rest of us.
That said, I've sock-puppeted at least once that I can remember (once I sock-puppeted in my own defense, but I think that would be called something else). I do not feel proud of it and I'm glad I got that out of my system. In fact I feel great remorse since the person I remember sock-puppeting left and when I "grew up" afterward, I realized they did not deserve that treatment. I don't know if they've wandered back since, but I kind of doubt it. If I could apologize and reconcile with this person, I certainly would.
I know I acted out of fear in doing so, and can understand why someone else would too..........but still - it does seem unnecessary. I think it hurts the board's integrity too.

I have resepct for your courage and integrity Bean -- Your a big person.

I can see the usefulness of the 'sock puppet' feature, so that people who are maybe at work can post under another name.
But, can I suggest that it might be a good idea to have some kind of thread that is always at the beginning of the list of topics (like the one that usually comes up, started by Dr G, and 'lasted posted on by Mud, March 2007' or something like that), that would explain to new members BEFORE THEY START POSTING AS SOMEONE ELSE that Dr G can see who they are, even if other forum members can't.
In that way, perhaps people might think twice about doing it, if they knew their identity would be known.

It may help as a reminder that when someone registers on ANY forum this standard clause is included within the Terms that you Tick to Agree to ....
..... Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.
This is standard procedure worldwide on all public domain forums.
Hope this helps.

I can only remember one time in the distant past I thought Dr. G posted as other than Richard Grossman. It was to wish us well during the holidays, or something along those lines.
Maybe it wasn't him, but it sure sounded like him, being sort of mysterious.
I have never thought he was intervening in any conflict as someone else.
my perception
Hi Bean,
I have two screen names. The first one, voicel2, was assigned to me by the software when I set up the board. Through this screen name I do the behind the scenes board administration. The second name, Richard Grossman, I use for posting and personal messaging. Every now and again I forget to switch to Richard Grossman before posting, so you will see "voicel2" as my moniker. But rest assured, it is me. I have never participated on the board as a "sock puppet", nor would I. There would be no reason for me to participate in this way, and it would be a fatal violation of the board's trust. Besides, one of me is quite enough  !
Best,
Richard
p.s. thanks, everyone, for their thanks...
