I went on YouTube in search of Christian comedy, but i noticed, spackled in among it, was all sorts of disgusting stuff. Apparently, people can film ANYTHING and put it online. I had no idea and I was absolutely HORRIFIED that there was every kind of abuse and disturbing thing on there, at the typing of one word. Of course, I did not watch any of that stuff. I just know it's on there from the titles and descriptions.

Should sites like that be banned or censored?
I don't think so but I'm one of the people who think we should give out licenses to have children, so..... can't really condemn anyone for finding fault with a site.
Just seems a slippery slope.
Maybe giving out licenses to have children.... would solve some of the problems we see in society?
Maybe it would just make them worse?
Rhetorical... I don't expect answers.
-
well, expecting answers or not, Lighter, I MUST respond.
Yes these sites should be banned and the people in the arrested. The problem is, how do you find a child snuff film creator? How do you nail that grandmother who beat the baby? How do you tell that boy that stabbing himself on film is going to terrify people and is not good?
Society often just sits back and waits for the next disgusting piece of filth to get even trashier, while they smile and feel great that it's all right at the touch of a mouse for FREE!
Just SICK and SHOULD ALL BE BANNED FOR SURE!

Ummmm.... I only ever saw films of gay boys singing the barbie song and Asian men playing truth or dare games in public restraurants with silly consequences..... people eating hot peppers (the women ruled btw) things of that nature.
Where did you see child snuff films and beatings...... self mutilation on Utube?
People should always suffer consequences for illegal behavior, IMO.
Are we talking about the same thing here?

Dear Laura,
Maybe you chose the wrong one, in your search for Christian Comedy...... you might have found what you were looking for on GodTube.
YouTube is years old now, whereas, my understanding is that GodTube is about one year old.
I don't use either one, my choice alone, as I simply really don't have the spare time (work, study, personal journey work) to search for something that may be of interest me. Never been on the sites, so I cannot comment on either of them, one way or the other.

Thank you! Yes, i'd like to check out Godtube.com. I didn't know there was such a thing. ThANKS so much.
I'm sitting here listening to my eDiets audio companion that came in the mail today. Kind of new agey yet interesting.

Good and bad in everything?
If it weren't for YouTube, I would never have seen this awesome goose-bumbly video

I love Youtube, for what I use it for!!!. I have learned so much more about music, and I've been able to really explore it some depth.
One area of music I've always needed to know more about is the classical side. Using youtube, I have been able to research the `masters' and see all their symphonies performed all around the world, as well as modern and minimalist interpreatations (such as Vanessa mae's version of vivadli's four seasons- that sort of thing).
But I've learned a lot more tan that, and realy enjoy seeing old clips of songs I liked years ago, but never saw before.
The other think i like about it is beng used by animators now and film students now, and i've been able to follow the final works from some the good schools around the world. Its really interesting to me.
I never come across the stupid stuff, but I don't search or browse that stuff.
Its like the net, really- it full of porn, and worse, but I wouldn't `write it off' because of that.

Just a little note about YouTube. You can report videos that are illegal or indecent. YouTube will pull them, or they'll be flagged as inappropriate.
Also, things like child porn and snuff are illegal, and there's often cyberpatrol groups hunting down the perpetrators. The FBI has an entire division dedicated to this, as do many police departments. At one time I wanted to be involved with this division of law enforcement, I'm still trying to decide if I want to. The thing people don't understand about computers is that nothing is ever really erased. Everything posted on the web can be tracked back to the point of origin. If you see something objectionable or illegal, please report it to YouTube.
I actually like YouTube. I watch a lot of dance videos from the Anaheim Ballet, and there are several dancers who have accounts and post videos from competitions. I also like looking for music videos and other clips.
I've never found anything very graphic on YouTube.

Oh, YouTube has Ballet? and Music Videos?
Like the sound of that :)

Yes, and check out a prodigy talent named Daniil Simkin. I think he's 19 now, but he's amazing. I've watched all of his videos. A lot of music company's post videos, and there are also a lot of clips from concerts and things.

Thank you, Tayana
I had no idea, think may have been put off by the bad press, and so, to date, never had a look.
Time is going to be a constraint presently, however, I shall have to make a slot now!! :)

I wish I understood what is wrong with people. At one point, some idiot put the video of Saddam Hussein's execution on there. Why? I don't know. I refused to watch anything like that.

About the only times I've gone to the You Tube site was when friends and relatives told me about funny or cute videos (i.e. the paw-holding otters). Otherwise, I don't bother.

Those otters are CUTE!!!! They were floating on their backs, holding each other's paws. The accidentally separated when they bumped into a wall of the aquarium but when they floated around back toward each other, one otter reached out and took back the paw of the other otter! ADORABLE!!!!!!

The funniest thing I have seen was when someone put Mentos in Diet Coke and it totally explodes! It is so funny!

there's some fantastic stuff on there too though Laura.
I have watched some excellent comedy and classical music.
It's like everything else- we have to be discerning & educate ourselves & others & decide overall where the boundary is between freedom and control.
That's why I say at the churches I attend- let people bring the world with them and let's filter out the bad value stuff together.
But that is cultural too though- I would ban all handguns for example, whereas many americans I've talked to want them. I just went to the movies and there's arcade games for kids everywhere where they get to select weaponry.
And I find a lot of 'Christian' stuff offensive too, frankly. I watched two movies called 'Left Behind' and they were full of violence and really skewed Jesus' teachings to a particular and unpleasant to me representation.
YouTube IS regulated, if you see something offensive report it and they take it down.
If I start watching something and I don't think it is what I need to see I switch it off. I hate violence and it's easy to become so desensitised to it. I won't even watch it on news reports. I know what it looks like already, sadly....

Anaheim Ballet does a weekly segment to get younger folks interested in ballet. They're very short videos. This is one of the introductory ones.

I've also been sent links for videos of a cat that plays the piano and other cats that have been taught to say "MaMa".

Believe it or not, my foster mom's now-deceased dog could say "banana" It sounded like "ba rah ra" but he DID get the banana to eat for saying it.

I didn't read through the whole string here, but I have not watched any of the yucky stuff on YouTube. I know it is there, but I look up things like old comedy routines and music videos. It's all about choice, and I sure would hate to have my choice taken away.
