Title: Updates! I'm buying a house!
Post by: tayana on March 05, 2008, 12:18:13 AM
That line should say everything.  I'm buying a house, or making an offer at least.  I have to print all of the papers and sign and fax them tomorrow and drop off my earnest money.  I'm buying a house!  I can't believe it.

Part of the reason I decided to move on the house is because my neighbors keep complaining to the property manager about my dog barking.  Now, I've been home sick for five days, so I'm not sure when they complained, but apparently he barks non-stop.  Of course, I have spent most of the last five days either laying on my bed, laying on the couch, or sleeping.  The dog has been laying with me.  He sometimes barks, warning barks, when he thinks someone is outside, if they knock on the door, or if he hears the upstairs neighbors go in and out of their door.  These still aren't non-stop.  In the last five days, he's only been left alone twice.  Once when I went looking at houses and once when I took M and a friend to the pool for about 45 minutes.  I'm really ticked about the whole thing.

I'm buying a house!

I haven't told my parents, of course.  I don't plan to until the deal is all final and I have the keys, or maybe once the contract is signed.  They'll just die.

I talked to my girlfriend about it some.  She even went with me to look and offered to help me with some of the minor renovations the house needs.  This is the same person I was seeing a few months ago, and I broke things off, but we're back together now.  We had a long talk about going too fast and needing space, and it's working out now.  It's all good.  I'm pretty happy, although a little dopey on the drugs the doctor gave me to cure my strep throat.

I'm still negotiating on the house.  The seller doesn't seem very motivated and my agent says the other agent doesn't know what she's doing.  It's a great house though.

Thanks for all the good wishes.  I'm really excited and enjoying this.

Hops, the house is actually close to where I am now.  I love this location.  I just need more space, or rather, not so much space as privacy and a yard.

Oh Hops, don't you know I've already painted, landscaped, bought new furniture, etc . . .

Let me see . . . .

There it is.  It needs some updating.  I want to put shutters on the front and take the giant bushes out, put some pretty rocks down and some landscaping that lets you see the brick.  There's a big tree in the back, which is fenced.  It's about the same distance to work as my apartment.  M will be going to same school.  I want a Japanese Maple tree too.

I think I can use most of my current curtains.  I'll need some furniture though.  I don't have enough, even with what's at my mom's.

Best of all, I can put the dog in the basement when I leave, and no one will hear him bark.

AND I have a laundry room and don't have to hang clothes in the bathroom anymore.

I'm dropping off my earnest money tomorrow.

Maybe I'll have a garden too.

It's soooo cute, Tay!
I'm constantly fantasizing about doing Square Foot Gardening in my front yard, since that's where all the sun is.
I've got a deal going with a young guy at church. He'll build the boxes and then have half the harvest.

And I've just written to a local brewery about a rain barrel. www.aquabarrel.com

It saves water and it's just neat.

As to furniture, once my brother hauls off or auctions our parents' furniture, I hie me to the thrift shops and then to Lowe's. I love to paint, and I can invent everything but a couch.

Hi Hops,

I have 2 water barrels -- one from main house and one from the garden shed.  Also, 2 big compost bins, so all compost is freely made from garden and household items, to put into the soil, for added nutrients and benefit.  Just now, at the stage of planning when to plant out my vegetable seedlings which I have started off -- some started off on windowsills in pretty reused boxes.

Here in the UK for many years now, everything possible is recycled, and locally, I enjoy my voluntary hobby friendship engagements in environmental recycling, with several new effective initiatives.

All so simple, and free!!  That's what is amazingly, such good common sense.  Nothing new at all -- previous generations recycled!!!

Currently, I am lobbying for supermarkets to cut down the plastic packaging on fresh produce.  Plastic is my personal pet hate.

Turtles are dying, and other sea creatures, having digested plastic carrier bags, that we humans scatter abroad everywhere.

Anyway, I will "shut up" as once started, I could go on for hours!  and bore everyone to pieces!   :)

All the best with all of your gardening endeavours.

Love, Leah

Leah..."Green" living is a passion of mine, too.
San Francisco has BANNED the flippin' plastic bags!

I never accept them any more.
I have several tote bags in the car to take into stores (I've greatly reduced shopping too) and if I forget, my resolve is, I carry things out with bare hands or go back to the car for my bags.

It's such a SIMPLE change, to refuse to contribute to the plastic ocean and dying wildlife and unecessary petrochemical bag-manufacturing.

It needs to be contagious.
See www.voluntarysimplicity.org (http://www.voluntarysimplicity.org) for more inspiration!

Hi Hops,

Thank you for the website link which I will peruse.  "Bring back glass bottles"  and end the plastic bottles and containers, fact is though, 'blasted' plastic it is a massive global industry.

I have been speaking with some dear ladies who shared of how they always went shopping with a small shopping basket, and shopping bags, and they said, with a smile, that we young 'uns are lazy, and I do feel, that they have a valid point.  So, I now have a couple of shopping bags in "Jute" material, which are biodegradable upon end of life, that said, they should last for years.

In the monthly newsletter, I wrote a small article entitled "drowning in a sea of plastic" which met with a positive response, thankfully, or could have been placed into the village "stocks" and met with with flying tomatoes and eggs!!!   :)   The local shops now sell "Jute" shopping bags.

Love, Leah

PS >  what does upset me is driving along the countryside and seeing plastic bags in the hedgerows which will end the life of some creature.  If possible, I will pull in and stop, and remove any plastic bags, which is not a problem, as I have a pair of gloves in the car, for grotty jobs i.e. checking air pressure etc. as the tyres are dirty!!  (ps. the gloves are not pink!!)   :)

Hi Tay,

Great, great news!!!  So exciting.  I will never forget my first house - did it by myself with barely any money to my name, it was such a sense of accomplishment!!

I think right now is a good time to buy as well - it is a buyer's market.

Are you closing soon?

Peace
