Title: Slaying the dragon....
Post by: spyralle on May 09, 2008, 03:16:50 AM: I thought that events yesterday needed a whole post of their own.... After all it's not often a princess goes out and slays the dragon all by herself!!!!! Cept this princess wasn't al by herself she had the backing and support of you guys which gave her the strength to wield the sword and not cower in a corner as originally intended....!!

So.... as you can probably guess by the title I stood up to the N boss though she fought hard to make me feel rubbish about myself. Quick recap - I had resigned and she took total offence. Then she told me to keep quiet about it because she wanted to make up a story to tell staff... I told the staff anyway because I knew she planned get rid of me then lie about it (she has previous form). She found out and made me stay at home until she decided what to do with me then yesterday she summoned me for a meeting... Bear in mind I was a nursing director at this point having sweat blood and tears to get where I am... or should I say was..

I was terrified about the meeting. I was in physical pain with the terror, but I asked for help. From here... from the heavens... from inside and I got it!!!!!!!!!!!! I really got it!!!!!
I drove to work and my fear vanished. Everything she threw at me in that meeting I smiled and pleasantly and professionally answered. She told me not to come back... She told me they would pay my notice but to stay away. I smiled and said that was fine and perhaps I would take some time to go on a cruise. She nearly spat at me.. She brought in the HR manager to try and make it look disciplinary... she failed.. I kept smiling.. She told me they had taken away my role that it was meaningless blah blah blah... I kept smiling.. At the end I stood up and wished her every success (Bear in mind that I had resigned because of the poor integrity in the centre. Money came before client welfare and that is not what I am about... People were bringing in drugs, putting other clients at risk but nothing was done because they were fee paying) She looked away when I said goodbye so I held out my hand and forced her to shake it.... I said I was going downstairs to say goodbye to my staff.. She said she would do it I said no thank you I would do it. i packed up my office and went to see the staff.. and then I left... They followed me to the car park. I was so determined not to cry and when I was finally walking away with my back to them the tears came... I got in my car and as I drove out of the car park for the last time they had all lined up across the drive. As I drove out they stod there clapping until I drove out of earshot... It was one of the most touching moments of my life and a memory that I will keep with me always

I actually stayed true to myself.. I stuck with what I believed and I feel great. I have no job but you know what.. I have integrity and self respect and for the first time in my life I feel like I am becoming a whole person...

You may not have a job - yet! However, what you do have is priceless -- knowing yourself, being true to yourself, with integrity, dignity and self respect, and healthy boundaries -- as a whole authentic person -- cannot be purchased at any price -- clearly, you own yourself.

Post by: Gaining Strength on May 09, 2008, 07:47:59 AM: That is an amazing story. You were superhuman to keep a smile on your face and never let her get to you. I am glad HR was there. They will have to see through her antics. Her days are not long but that is completely besides the point.

You have even more than integrity and self respect - you have the respect of your whole staff. What a moving image - to see then standing there clapping as you drove away. I am clapping with them with great admiration.

I mourn for the loss of your job but I am thankful that you are now free to find work in an environment that deserves you.
I feel so proud to know you. What an inspiration.

There's such a heavy dose of the bittersweet involved, yet I'm so happy for you that you're free from that oppression. She sounds like a real doozie!

What gets me is the part where she brings in HR, to make it look disciplinary (like that person/department doesn't know you chose to resign??)
So typical, it is. Whether in a divorce, the breaking off of a friendship, or ending a job, the same old pattern: You have a legitimate gripe against NPD and she turns it around and takes issue with you. I hope that you are allowing yourself a great measure of relief and satisfaction to be out of that.
And now, let the new opportunities flow :)

Did you know, that in some mythologies dragons were often referred to as worms?? She surely showed her worm side to you, once you decided to not play her game. And all you had to do was say "I don't want to play"... "here are MY rules"...

You are strong woman and a role model to all women. You stood up for what you believed in and I applauded you for leaving something that went against every reason why you chose this proffession.

And hang the fact I have no job!! Yesterday I went to the park with my grandchild, and the look on his face as we played was absolutely what this life is all about. It's the simple stuff that these people don't seem to understand.. Just the joy of watching him chew on a buttercup or the sound of him screaming with delight as we played that is priceless..

and remember one and all a dragon slayer is only as good as the people who stand behind her offering love and support...

Lets raise a glass to the voiceless everywhere who have strength and wisdom and integrity in bucketloads.. and sometimes just sometimes those who get to look the N B*****ds in the eye and smile
