Ok, Iz, I think you have too much time on your hands. Here is a tip for getting rid of those pesky skeeters.............I heard if you put lemon fresh Joy in water on a plate outside they flock to that and not you!! Dummy me, haven't tried it!! And we have too many around with our pool and all the rain we have had in Iowa.

Izzy, you are so funny!!!
My dad ALWAYS had problems with them because he always had bananas. Ugh. Sometimes there were just gross swarms of them.
Here is a really, really, REALLY effective way to get rid of them: take either a narrow-necked bottle (like a Coke bottle) or another jar (in which case you would make a scroll/cornucopia out of a piece of paper, and tape it so the narrow end is well into the jar). Put an inch or so of apple cider vinegar (has to be AC; white or wine, etc. won't work) in the bottom.
Fruit flies will go into it like magic. They go down the paper, into the cider, then either drown or can't find their way out again (and drown).
It's not the most appetizing-looking thing, but it sure gets rid of them!! You can put a drop or two of dish detergent in it, too. It acts as a surfactant and "glues" them to the cider. But it's not necessary.

That really struck me funny because I was so serious about this damned fruit fly. I think I nailed him last night.

I know one thing about NOT getting rid of fruit flies.
Spraying them with hairspray, say.....
in the toilet?
THEN leaning in reeeaaaaally close
and lighting a match
to see how that's workin for'ya....
(A match bc the electricty'd gone out in a storm)
is a very
very
very......
bad
idea.
Singed eyebrows and who knows what happened to the flies at that point.
ps I wasn't the one with the bright idea.
I was the one reporting on the singed eyebrow situation.
