Title: Question for Doc G
Post by: lighter on August 16, 2009, 09:46:55 AM
How does one go about finding a T who specializes in BPD?

Do you open the phone book, dial and begin asking how many cases they've dealt with?

Do psychotherapists deal with that more than psychologists would?

Finding someone who regularly deals with particular disorders makes sense to me.

Hi Mo2,

BPD is a very difficult disorder to treat, and most therapists will not take on such cases.  Look for therapists who have training in Dialectic Behavior Therapy--they often specialize in this area.  A  state psychological association might be able to help locate local therapists with DBT training.  If not, a simple Google search including city/psychologist/ Dialectic Behavior Therapy (or DBT) might turn up potential therapists.

Best,

Richard
