Two quotes in the news that made me chuckle (or something)
« on: March 31, 2011, 10:29:39 AM »
Here are two quotes I heard on NPR a week or two ago that made me chuckle.  First I'll write them out, and you will see (I think) why they got my attention--they remind me of people I know! Then I will tell you who they are about.

1.  "Consistency has never been the hobgoblin of [his] mind."

2.  " He never had my back.  Me and my brother always had to have his back, but he never h ad our backs."

#1 was an NPR news analyst discussing Mumar Qaddafi .
#2 was Frank Calabrese Jr., a Chicago organized-crime guy, who made the difficult decision to testify against his father in order to get his life back and get out of organized crime.

Strange how both of these statements, about a dictator and a remarkably cruel crime boss, remind me of my mother . . .

For some reason, #1 still makes me giggle every time I think of it.

Mmm. I find it clever-funny, but not humorous-funny.

I found this clever (but not very funny) too. If I post a link to it and anyone else takes the time to read it ..isn't that, and my posting in particular, severe irony? http://www.acceleratingfuture.com/michael/blog/2010/07/amusing-ourselves-to-death/
But just look at all the comments about it!!! People have to post! *sigh* me too.
