What a moving story.
The extraordinary courage transitioning takes could only be matched by the sheer enormity of the biological and emotional drive to do it. The need to have one's identity in the world match how one knows oneself, deep in the brain, must be so primal. These brave individuals subject themselves to extraordinary scrutiny, exposure, judgement...or in the worst cases, violence....
I think the more transition stories are told, the less judgmental people may become about deep biological processes that are so much more complex than surface assumptions.
One thing I find heartening is the stories of little kids who realize this about themselves with absolutely no doubts, no confusion, at a fairly young age--and are supported by their parents.
Once that's gone wider for a generation or two, things will be better. It's tragic that anybody has to wait for human acceptance and kindness.
