I'd better stop watching these!

(Been at it for months now, just blundered onto Bob Wells online...)

I'm very unlikely to DO this, but when I feel nervous about my future, the idea of renting out my house and hitting the road does tempt me. Only thing holding me back is fear of being alone.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....Amber, wanna rent a parking place?

xxoo just for fun,
Hops

Hops!

I've been watching renovated school bus cottages!  I think it's a fabulous idea.

Besides, you'd never be alone....you have your pooch.  And us.

There are people of all ages doing just that, Hops. Hitting the road. One of Mike's nieces - married with a dog - travelled the US in a VW camper and published a blog about their adventures. (Including lots of car trouble!)

They spent some time in Alaska, even. Picking up jobs where ever they were. Last I heard, they were thinking of settling in Atlanta.

And for future reference - you won't get anything longer than 28 ft up my road to even GET to my property. I have to meet 18 wheelers out at the highway when that's how things are shipped. I now make sure people understand that's physically impossible here. The movers parked at the highway - unloaded onto a box truck - and then brought it in to unload.

Hopalong:
Isn't it a sweet dream? I really DO call it a fantasy, however.
Even with my pooch and meeting nice people along the way, I know myself and believe that at some point the isolation would trigger depression.

I'd love to do some traveling and camping with a partner, but not alone. I have zero mechanical or tools facility so it's not really going to be my solo thing. I have also daydreamed about those cool tents you can attach to an SUV...for short camping excursions I think that'd be fun.

One reason I keep enjoying watching Bob Wells and the like, though, is that it's exciting to see so many conversations with nonconformist people who are not afraid of poverty in old age. It's encouraging. Most of these travelers are middle to early-old age, though quite a few are younger.

For me, it's more of a financial emergency fantasy. The idea of renting out my house for a year or two, banking most of it, and living simply on the road. Kinda fun. But again, I'd rather do that with a partner. Solo travel just doesn't ring my chimes any more. Did plenty of it earlier in my life....

Hops

--- End quote ---

Maybe you can do mini adventures, Hops, maybe even house sitting in far flung places.  A friend of mine has started fitting in mini travel adventures during the school holidays (her kids are older now but she works in a school).  She did a fortnight traveling around Portugal, another break where she traveled across Poland and into the Ukraine and this summer she's going to Africa for six weeks.  I would definitely love to travel more, in any way I can!  Maybe I'll just send a picture of myself around the world :)  Lol xx
