How many times have you had credit card fraud happen to you?

It has happened to me zero times, I limit the places I use my credit card at. At work I witnessed it happening to customers though. Not sure how the cards get out there. I've always assumed it's hotels or something.

I've noticed some places require me to put in a pin and some do not. I don't understand how that works out. I only know my recent medical appointments ran my card with no pin number being required. in

I suspect someone may have gotten directly into my on-line bank account when my bank first set it up for me even though I didn't want it. Many years ago. I was too depressed to sort it out at the time. Now I actually check it.
 
In the end it's tax money that pays for it all I think, the "FDIC insured" stuff. Since it happens to almost everybody we must be wasting a ton of money on covering it. I don't know how that all works maybe it has nothing to do with the FDIC. The banks end up covering it somehow.

It trips ups fraudsters when they have to give the zip code for billing address on card.  That's what tripped up the fraudster using mine.  They tried to put 1.00 through, to see if it would work, so they could hit it hard with large amounts next. 

I haven't used that card at a hotel recently, but I've used it for AirBnBs, groceries, doctors, gas, and restaurants.  It could be that a server takes pics, then sells the numbers.   It could have been captured through the internet..... not sure.

I'm just glad they caught it before it became more of an issue.

Well lately my problem has been that they're OVERprotective. I bought gas on my last trip over the mtn, because it's 15-20 cents cheaper than in my state. Before I even got home, I had voicemail to call their fraud line. Because I hadn't used the card over there, for a month or so.

At least I can just walk through the computer menu to approve the charge now.

I've had that as well, Skep, made a larger than usual purchase and my card wouldn't go through because they'd flagged it as a possible fraud, it got sorted but caused a delay and was quite embarrassing in the shop!  Lol

I try to contain my emotional responses to things like now; they're totally unnecessary to solving the problem. They make me feel like crap, usually... and kinda puts other people on the spot too.

Doesn't always happen, mind you! I can just be having a bad day, full of obstacles and frustration. But if I can stay in my logical thought process without letting my ego have space to be indignant over the incident... it ends up, problem solved and like nothing ever happened.

On the other hand, I called the 800 number for a service that is very secure in their log-in credentialling. I wanted to change my home phone number from the old one - which was a broadband powered landline - but to verify my identity from this device, they wanted to text me a code to a number that didn't exist and couldn't receive a text anyway.

When I called that number, I heard a whole series of sales pitches for things I wasn't interested in and when I finally got through to what I thought was a human being, started saying "I'm not interested" "I don't want that" "I just need help logging in to the website". To no avail. I hung up because the sales pitches were ENDLESS and not at all "helpful".

The problems I'm having lately are all related to the ipad. If I switch to a PC, no problems.

I really don't want to do it, but I think I'm going to end up completely redesigning my tech situation around here. I've gotten a new security application for the PCs and it's exactly performing as advertised. That's rare in the tech world. Even the phone is going to get replaced with something that's not so "smart" - since ALL the snafus and irritating messages/notifications are from things I simply don't use the phone for.

But yeah, most of my devices are going on anywhere from 5-10 years old and the PCs are running an OS that's end of life very soon. The ipad, the kindle... are from the first few generations and can't be upgraded past their current state. Talk about planned obsolesence.
