I got to see him in DC a little more than a year ago. Hysterical. Marvelous. (And I never, but never, go to these things... I hate crowds... )

Have almost all his books - there are two in the "Johnny and" series I'm missing, and I don't have his children's books.

Great to meet a fellow Pratchett enthusiast!!! When I grow up, hah, I hope I end up more or less like Esmerelda Weatherwax... :D

I am not familiar with Terry Pratchett.  But one of the things on my list could be: reading anything by David Sedaris.  He is funny and brilliant.
"Me Talk Pretty One Day" is his best, I think.

Since we're talking books now and not pregnancy or sex using marmite, I feel a little more in my element.
Does anyone here read P.G. Wodehouse? I think any Bertie and Jeeves novel is the pinnacle of the English language since ol' Willie Shakespeare. His use of the language is perfect and unique. They are completely silly and I don't know too many women who are fans, but I have reread several many times over. 'The Code of the Woosters' is one of the great English novels.
Give me a hammock, a lemonade, a breezy spring day and Bertie and Jeeves and its almost perfect.  :)

thanks mum & mudpup... I've been looking for some good new reads... just about memorized my old reliable favorites, and been wondering what on earth to try next.  :D  :D

mudpup,

I have a P.G. Wodehouse book by my bedside right now.  :)

If you like PGW you would love E.F. Benson. His books are even better! He only wrote 5 humorous novels, which I read over and over.

Thanks bunny,
I'll give Benson a try, although I am highly skeptical that he can match old PG.

One way to end a day of reading Wodehouse is to top it off with an episode or two of Fawlty Towers with John Cleese as Basil.     I'm laughing just thinking about it. The Brits may have strange tastes in condiments but they know how to crack wise. No offense October, et al. :)

I haven't bought the books (yet) but we have the video series with Stephen Fry as Jeeves and Hugh Laurie as Bertie.  Very fine acting.  My daughter loves them.  Very easy way to have a history lesson.

As for the Marmite comments, have you actually tried it, Mudpup?  If not, how do you know you wouldn't like it?

Ooohh, I'd almost forgotten about P.G. Woodehouse... Love him to bits! I have missed Terry Pratchett, although people who know me keep telling me I should read him, and I loved that decadent thing :D . Has anyone read Douglas Adams? Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is absolutely hilarious! I even have the TV version on video, very naff-looking, but it suits it! However, I don't think I will try marmite with sex though, waaayy too sticky!

Thanks, it looks great! Another reason to spend all my days on the computer!      I heard about the Hollywood version and am also worried and concerned... Somehow expensive stagesettings and realistic special effects just seem so wrong when it comes to Hitchhiker's!

Dec-a-dent - haha!  :D Thanks Stormchild. I won’t forget that. Ever!

For Hitch-Hiker’s fans: definition of lovable narcissism (yes): Zaphod Beeblebrox as he enjoys being in the Total Perspective Vortex.
“The man who invented the Total Perspective Vortex did so basically in order to annoy his wife.” http://www.boosman.com/blog/archives/2002/09/the_total_persp.html

Oh Lord, I knew a Zaphod Beeblebrox when I was in grad school and his name really WAS Phil.

joke about the ten teeth not mine - Terry Pratchett's - credit where due - and of course one of his characters is unident, and another one has DIAMOND DENTURES but it didn't happen the way you'd think.

I really have to go, this board is so addictive, but in the nicest way possible.

How do we know the toothbrush was invented in (backwards U.S. state name here)? Because otherwise it'd have been called the teethbrush.

Glad to see you out and about October. We miss you when you need to lower your profile, but we understand.

I couldn't watch much of the TV series. I didn't want to interfere with the images the books had left. The genius of Wodehouse is his magical use of the language. Very difficult to translate to TV.

Marmite; I'm just teasing you about your taste in condiments. I actually, despite the descriptions, can't get a grasp of what it would taste like, (sticky, salty, vegey, beery, malty :? ) so maybe I would like it.

I never read it but I used to listen to the radio version years ago. I was often on the floor.

Wow, I thought only geeky guys like me like Terry Pratchett and HitchHiker's Guide and similar.  Its good to know some geeky girls like it too!     I'm not sure about that Marmoset stuff.  Sounds too dark and gooey for me.  Besides, fermented foods seem to disagree with me.  Anyone else have that?  Cheese, alcohol, nuts (mold), black beans, hoisin, soy suace?
