Voicelessness and Emotional Survival > What Helps?
Music in recovery
New Guest Again:
Thank you all for your responses, just what I expected from a supportive group. Dawning - I dont know the tribe, group or area in Africa of the " They are Singing Your Song". I just loved the idea of having one. As for the other "Music of the Spheres" that I just heard a few weeks ago, that is a variation on the same thing to me. Here is something else that speaks some of the same music in all of us - enjoy!
THE RELAXED STATE OF INNER PEACE
A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than from fears based on past experiences
Unmistakable ability to enjoy every moment.
Loss of interest in judging others.
Loss of interest in judging self.
Loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.
Loss of interest in conflict.
Loss of ability to worry (a very serious symptom).
Frequent episodes of appreciation.
Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.
Frequent attacks of smiling
Increased tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.
Increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.
Warning: If you are exposed to some of the above or if you have some of these traits, your Inner Peace may be so far advanced as to not be curable. If you are exposed to these symptoms, remain so at your own risk.

Not to turn the subject from having a song, or inner peace... (I have enjoyed those posts)
I just wanted to add another song that spoke to me about the experience of being/ feeling 'used' in relationships with N's. It's Matchbox 20
Peace, sjkravill
Hand Me Down
Someday they'll find your small town world on a big town avenue
Gonna make you like the way they talk when they're talking to you
Gonna make you break out of the shell cause they tell you to
Gonna make you like the way they lie better than the truth
They'll tell you everything you wanted someone else to say
They're gonna break your heart, yeah
[Chorus]
From what I've seen
You're just a one more hand me down
Cause no one's tried to give you what you need
So lay all your troubles down
I am with you now
Somebody ought to take you in
Try to make you love again
Try to make you like the way they feel
When they're under your skin
Never once did think they'd lie when they're holding you
You wonder why they haven't called
When they said they'd call you
You start to wonder if you're ever gonna make it by
You'll start to think you were born blind
[Chorus]
From what I've seen
You're just a one more hand me down
Cause no one's tried to give you what you need
So lay all your troubles down
I am with you now
I'm here for the hard times
The straight to your heart times
Whenever it ain't easy
You can stand up against me
And maybe rely on me
And cry on me, yeah
Oh no, no, no
Some day they'll open up your world
Shake it down on a drawing board
Do their best to change you
They still can't erase you
[Chorus]
From what I've seen
You're just a one more hand me down
Cause no one's tried to give you what you need
So lay all your troubles down
I am with you now
Lay them down on me
Oh yeah
You're just one more hand me down
And all those nots don't give you what you need
So lay all your troubles down...on me

Joni Mitchell one of my favorites!
-Heart and Mind seems to be about a narcissist... sounds so familiar!!! Peace, sjkravill
I am a woman of heart and mind
With time on her hands
No child to raise
You come to me like a little boy
And I give you my scorn and my praise
You think I’m like your mother
Or another lover or your sister
Or the queen of our dreams
Or just another silly girl
When love makes a fool of me
After the rush when you come back down
You’re always disappointed
Nothing seems to keep you high
Drive your bargains
Push your papers
Win your medals
Fuck your strangers
Don’t it leave you on the empty side
I’m looking for affection and respect
A little passion
And you want stimulation-nothing more
That’s what I think
But you know I’ll try to be there for you
When your spirits start to sink
All this talk about holiness now
It must be the start of the latest style
Is it all books and words
Or do you really feel it?
Do you really laugh?
Do you really care?
Do you really smile
When you smile?
You criticize and you flatter
You imitate the best
And the rest you memorize
You know the times you impress me most
Are the times when you don’t try
When you don’t even try
Feline:
Here are a few songs that are meaningful to me.If I listed all the songs I love It would get rediculus...so here are some off the top.. enjoy.
Clocks by Coldplay
Lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh, I beg, I beg and plead, singing
Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head
And a trouble that can't be named
Tigers waiting to be tamed, singing
You are
You are
Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop but you now know, singing
Come out upon my seas,
Cursed missed opportunities
Am I a part of the cure?
Or am I part of the disease?, singing
You are, you are, you are
You are, you are, you are
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
You are
You are
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Tyger: Blakes Poem was made into a beautiful song done by Tangerine dream
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare sieze thy fire?
And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And why thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors grasp?
When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
William Blake.

Cloudburst At Shingle Street
We climb the cliffs
and hang from trees
wrap the rocks and the beach
state of shock at flick of switch
(mindless) into the cloudburst overhead
I wanna get my face wet
been buried in the sand for years
(headlong) into the cloudburst naked
there's really no escaping it
there's gonna be a cloudburst here.
Come out of your shell
and look at the sea
it may be just as well
you stayed here with me
private hell at turn of a key
(blindly) into the cloudburst overhead
I wanna get my face wet
been buried in these hands for years
(mindless) into the cloudburst naked
there's really no escaping it
there's gonna be a cloudburst here
and it's dawning on me
I've been a cork in the ocean, been bobbing in the North Sea
then take this vest of plaster, these boots of concrete
and make them down as surplus, return to Mulberry...
Cloudburst at Shingle Street
Cloudburst at Shingle Street
Cloudburst at Shingle Street
When I was small I was in love in love with everything
now there's only you
( I used to think of my cat Rikki when I listened to this..)
