Interesting Observation
« on: June 17, 2006, 12:09:00 AM »
It just occurred to me a moment ago, that, despite all the disagreements that we occasionally have on this board, new members who have been lurking and reading, eventually decide to become part of its fabric.  Go figure.

Coming from some such lurker.....I did see posts about the discord here. It was the ability to have disagreements and move past it that got my attention. Refresing....really

ReallyMe,
Although board members here may often share similar pain, we are all different and may choose to handle it differently. This includes posting styles. I find your choice of words "lurking and reading" offensive. Probably because I am one who has been lurking here for a long time, yet, when my I am more passionate about a comment, story, or person here, that's when I might choose to post. Also, and more importantly, I find so much information on this board interesting, thought-provoking and useful, I choose to learn and reflect on all of it. It is only when I feel confident and sure of my feelings (my voiceless tendencies) that I might post...if, and only if, I think it might be worthwhile for myself and/or others. Now, having said that, I am still sensitive to "being different" with my responses here. That is not to say I feel special, but rather, I need to proceed with caution, if you will. THIS is my reason for lurking and learning, reading and weeding, and posting and coasting.

You seem a bit annoyed in your comment. Were you? I felt a "how dare you" lurking between your words.
We each have our own buttons. When pushed, I know this is an opportunity for me to learn something about myself. It's often difficult to see what that might be, but as the lessons repeat themselves, I get closer to knowing what I need to look at.

Mindful thought:
I think you're someone who speaks your mind.  Some of us mind what we speak. In time, maybe this too will evolve.    BJ

BJ,

not only do I "speak my mind"  (which I refer to as uninhibited or bold speech), but I speak truth.

Was I annoyed?  At the time there might have been a little anger at certain posts, yes.

"Mind what I speak?"  Well, if I were in another country, maybe, but I'm in the USA, so there is freedom of speech within the guidelines of this board.

As far as my choice of words about lurking and reading...those were not meant to portray offense at all.  I was merely using the cyberetically correct phrases that most people use for "sitting out of a conversation, observing, reading, taking things in, but choosing not to always post."  That's all that was implied by my choice of words.

Just to be sure we're on the same page:
My comment "mind what I speak" was my way of saying I'm a thinker and may or may not choose to voice it. If I do voice my thoughts, I am sometimes mindful again, after a response. I was not saying "I mind" (as in, am bothered by) what you say.  I suppose that would be the obvious meaning....but it's not me.  I see here that we can never be too sure what/how someone hears or interprets what we might write. (This is why I often lurk and don't post.)
BTW, I believe it is wonderful to speak the truth. Whether I like it or not, agree or not,  is not the point. I only want to bother with the truth, otherwise, why talk about it.  Although, it is OUR truth, as we see it. That's what makes us unique. I, too, believe in truth because otherwise, for me, if it needs to be hidden or lied about...it would mean "shame". And to that, I say, "Never again"! So, I remain critical, and critical, to find the truth of what I think, what my mind thinks, and what I choose to voice.  BJ

I'm going to go out on a limb here and state something.

I do not agree with the theory of "it's YOUR truth AS YOU SEE IT."  Truth is truth and there is only 1 truth.  I am not embracing of everyone's beliefs and lifestyles as being truth.  I do however accept people's actions and thoughts as their REALITY, but not as the TRUTH.

OK, on a technical note, I agree. And...truth is integrity.

This makes a lot of sense, RM.  Thanks for this explanation.

I like how this particular thread is about how we handle discord here, then a little bit of discord appeared, and then was neatly resolved within the thread.  Practically perfect.  And well-done  :) !
