Although it didn't work out that you could win your case, by checking it out, you gave yourself important information.  You will never have to ask yourself, "what if?"  You know what the likely results would be of pursuing it and now can put your energies in a far better direction.  I'm glad your lawyer was honest with you and didn't give you false hope which would have just been a huge waste of a year of your life.  And would have cost you financially too.  It's wrong what the university did to you but maybe someday a person will come along who can take them to task.  It's no longer on your to-do list, though, and that is just great.

Now here's to the good job working out for you.  And making yourself stronger with the exercise program--that's going to feel so good.

Thanks for the update and now on to the next chapter of your life.  Here's to some really good surprises coming along!!!

Hi Hoppy,
sounds like a good decision.  The important thing is that you did not run from the conflict or from standing up for yourself.  You saw your old boss clearly for what he is, and that is worth a lot of money! You can go forward knowing that you do so not from a place of fear but from a place of peace.

Yep.
I've been ambivalent about the institution for many many years. Its racism, sexism, elitism, etc. There are brilliant people doing good work all over the place, but the university as a bureaucracy and employer can be very shoddy, particularly to the staff (moreso than the faculty).

They didn't treat my father well, and didn't treat me well, and I will never work there again. It IS a relief. There are a lot of interesting other things going on in this town, and I'll find my niche!

Anvils off my shoulders...

thanks all.
