Another curious question for anyone
« on: December 29, 2006, 10:56:46 AM »
Have any of you that dealt with N people, noticed that they seem to have a fascination with serial killer movies, information, news broadcasts about them?  I'm wondering if this was just in my situation with X or is this common with your situations too?  X in my situation enjoyed watching movies about serial killers and psychopaths...not exactly "slasher" movies, but movies that got into psychopathic's minds.

X told me that she always was interested in this cause she liked learning about how the psychopath's mind worked.  It often made me wonder if that was why X was so good at what she did, as far as the deceptive tactics she used with me, etc.  It also made me wonder if that's why she and her family seem to not fear anything that others could do to them, because they know how to outwit the system, by banning together, convincing others of their side, etc.

Actually, I think that knowledge is power. Ns probably like to watch movies about Ns because it makes them feel powerful - even though in movies, the N usually 'gets it' in the end.

For the rest of us, though, it's very helpful to learn as much about these people as we can - safely! And the safest way to learn about them? Read! Watch good movies! Take classes in criminal psychology!

And then don't tuck the knowledge away in some compartment in your mind, don't cripple it by telling yourself that 'nobody YOU know could POSSIBLY be like that'. Use it. Look at how people behave in traffic, at work, at the post office, at the grocery store.

Watch for the patterns! They will always tell you the truth. All KINDS of people can possibly be like that. Especially our Ns.

My father has a litany of guidelines for everything he does including watch movies or TV.  Only certain actors or types of actors, only certain types of movies excluding any political or social lean other than his own.  He would never recognize himself as an N and so wouldn't go for such movies unless they were about politically and morally conservative heroes. - GS

Hey GS,
Fascinating how often those heros are in brutally violent movies...

Well, I don't consider myself an N but I really enjoy reading about serial killers (true crime, etc. ) and watch real shows (not recreations like CSI.......) real forensic shows.  It is interesting to me.  I always thought I would like to be a psychologist........like to read psych books, etc.  I think this fascination came when I realized I was raised in a totally dysfunctional family and now I like to psychoanalyze myself to figure out why???

Me too, kell!  Me too!!!!  I love those shows and I love to analyze myself (and others too).  I find it fascinating to see what it was that drove those people over the edge.  Sometimes I think.. ok if the mother had only NOT done this....... then the child wouldn't have gone off the deep end.. and the lives of the ones that person killed might have been spared.  For me the knowing is prevention for anything I might do that could drive someone else over the edge.  Silly I guess.  But my mind always seems to see the things I can change or rearrange to do things better.

Hey, Kelly, whoami, have either of you read The Gift of Fear, by Gavin de Becker? Please please do if you haven't. It is a remarkable book and he is a remarkable teacher! And he describes real situations. His own background is similar to some of ours, those of us who went through really rough childhoods. He has healed amazingly. It's a remarkable book...
