Why This Board Works...

Another musing I have had ever since the board went down a while back... Why does this board generate so much activity when most of the others I have visited on the topic seem to stop and go and not be consistent. Before I found this site, I took part in anotehr board, but the topics would get a response or two and then fall off the page... even though the topics and stories were good and often helpful.

I think we have a benevolent creator (Dr. Grossman) who cares about us as a whole and provides protection on the board.

I think we have many people who have researched the subject extensively and can provide information that we need to understand our situations.

I think we care about one another.

I think the stories here help us see that we share backgrounds and even current problems.

But why does this one work so well????? Ideas?????

Don't laugh, I mean this...

I think a lot of people here have or are in the process of developing good BS detectors. Lots of native smarts, lots of creativity, but most important, good BS detectors.

A lot of people are here because they (we) want to grow and heal and understand what they (we) have gone through

A lot of people are here because they (we) are tired of the same old same old, tired of games and garbage.

The net result is a bunch of folks who are trying to be truthful with one another and themselves and see and understand very important stuff.

Yeah... that is going to be a very attractive discussion group!

You are so right!

This board works! I have been on others and no one has cared enough to throw me any 'crumb of an idea' that would maybe help.....I felt it was useless.

Many people were lost with the disappearance of their post. Some places have cliques!

When I finally came on board, just recently, I spilled my guts and I am still welcome. People had ideas, right or wrong for me, but whatever hit home stuck to me and I feel I have a purpose, a path to follow. I have NEVER before had so much follow-up from such loving people as I have had here!

Voicelessness is what is is all about and some of those other boards are aware of, but don't know about, voicelessness:  it hasn't HIT them, I expect

This is where I feel welcomed and treated like a human being, faults and all, without reproach and others are willing to try to help me when I felt it was too late! (Right now i feel like a little ray of sunshine!) ewwww yuck!!!!!!!! Did I get gooey?????

I believe it is working so well because we are being honest and facing our own faults without feeling we might be shunned!

I think this board might be different because most everyone makes a real attempt to meet people where they are.  I know that on a lot of boards--but also in face-to-face relationships--there is a difficulty with people who try to FIX a situation.  We do a lot of listening here, and encouraging.  I think a lot of us have been around the block enough times to know that we can really only fix ourselves.  All the rest of us can do is be a cheering section. 

And when we do make suggestions, we seem to give the other person the freedom to pick what works for them at the moment.  I don't see a whole lot of ego-building wrapped up in it.  There seems to be genuine caring and not too much agenda attached to the advice that's given.

I think the board works because it evolves and the people here do.
I've been around for years and it's helped at every stage of recognising the npd, detaching from it, helping our family manage it, and now ( I hope! ) moving on from it...

I've 'met' some good people here, I've learned loads about not just npd but about life and how to live it.

Well said, from my perspective, as I have often said to myself that I don't know how to live life. I was never guided or structured, and I was alone from the 'day I was born'. I often felt I need a scriptwriter on my shoulder to whisper to me what to do.

Being here with real people with real problems shows me that I am not alone. I can learn from the hardships of others and can learn from the advice directed toward me.

why this board works........

It sure works for me. I came here when I was shattered and it was the only place I felt safe and supported. What a non-judgemental and intelligent group of people are here.
I think it is a gift from Heaven.
Maybe synchronicity is at work and this gives it a very big chance to take effect.

Dr. Grossman has done a very benevolent thing. May he be hugely rewarded somehow for this.
