Muse,

i agree with you.  I am working towards that place but not there yet and my guess it will take a long time for me but I am getting better.  Doing a bit of purging these days.  Maybe we have to rid ourselves of the toxic matter before we can be open to the inner voice of silence and peace.

In my kitchen I have this

"Be still and know that I am" - each day I manage it for a little while and that is progress.

I agree Muse.  That is a goal of mine  but it is soooo difficult.  The combination of self-recrimination and ADD gets in my way.  Ironically being still will help me with both.  Wha't a poor soul to do?? lol - gs

There is the silence of true peace, and the silence of exhaustion, when no more tears remain to shed.

I love the silence of true peace, and living alone, I am able to be silent most of the time at home. I rarely listen to music [but I do, at times, and I enjoy it] and I don't watch much TV at all.

This kind of silence is deeply healing, but it can't be forced and it comes when it will.

Muse, that quote sounds like Meister Eckhart, or George Fox, or one of the contemplative saints. Thank you for sharing it!
