Does anyone watch Sex and the City?
« on: June 24, 2007, 11:14:18 AM »
I was turned on to this show and even though the subject matter is pretty raunchy it makes me wonder-is this behavior N?  I have a friend who might as well be on the show.  She sleeps with anything that walks, she wants it all and gets mean if she cannot have it.  She hates going to work, she drinks too much etc.  Sometimes like a soap opera I get hooked on her escapades.

I only watched it once.
The only T.V  show  that I know all the characters is the "Sopranos'. However, I have not watched season 6  b/c. we buy it on Amazon.
If anyone has questions or insights in to this --- I am "all ears '                   Love   Ami

I used to love watching that show because I liked seeing the clothing.

But it is a fantasy, an illusion, fairytale.  Very little portrayed is real.

I think of the show as a cartoon for adults, but using real people instead of animation.

I think it's misguiding to take the show seriously.  Sex in the City reminds me of the show"Absolutely Fabulous", which is funnier and more tongue in cheek.

Love,
Sally

I agree that it is a fantasy.  First of all the girls could not afford the apartments let alone the $500 Shoes.  I guess my point is that Carrie seemed to be attracted to guys who were unavailable and threw away the nice guys like Aidan.  Sam is a complete whore who really does not care if everyone knows it-that seems a little N to me.  I like it though because it is fun to imagine living in N Y.  Plus it reminds me of my friend who is totally screwed up.

Tony's mom on Sopranos tried to have her son killed. That is pretty darned extreme . She is such a fantastic archetype for N mothers. Worth renting the whole season to see her in action.  She disapproves of everything and her inate bitterness poisons her chidlren no matter how hard they try to please her.
Someone said that she would have been the toughest, best Don that they could have. Ruthless, Clever, Manipulative, Charming when required. Yep
