The Climb of Your Life
« on: July 14, 2007, 08:01:14 PM »
This is from an old article - very good, I think -  with lessons the author learned about the journey of faith, from a strenuous climb up Scarfell Pike in England's Lake District.  It's from a Christian perspective, based on Scripture & complete with references, but applies to all, I'd say.

- by Stacey S. Padrick - a teacher of international students and a training consultant in personal money management. She has also been a contributing writer for several trade encyclopedias on doing business in China and Hong Kong.

1) Take it one step at a time
"I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."  Philippians 3:14

2) Take time to eat
"Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger."  John 6:35

3)  Keep moving forward.
"Therefore, being always of good courage  . . . for we walk by faith, not by sight."   2 Corinthians 5:6–7

4)  Travel in fellowship.
"Encourage one another, and build up one another, just as you also are doing."  1 Thessalonians 5:11

5)  Look back*
"Remember His wonders which He has done."   Psalm 105:5

6)  Stay on the alert.
"Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall."  1 Corinthians 10:12

7)  Behold the beauty.
"In His presence is fulness of joy; In [His] right hand there are pleasures forever."  Psalm 16:11

8)  You will reach the peak.
"Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith."
Hebrews 12:1–2

If anyone wants to read the full story, there's an explanatory blurb beneath each item which is available at the link above.
Hope this helps.

With love,
Hope

*Oh, PS re: #5 -  This business of looking back caught me up short till I read the explanation and supporting Scripture. This is something I often forget to do - to look back at all of the many wonders which God has already done... not because of me, but in spite of me. He is so good!
