Do you know who wrote this?

The unpalatable truth is that falling in love is, in some ways, indistinguishable from a severe pathology. Behavior changes are reminiscent of psychosis and, biochemically speaking, passionate love closely imitates substance abuse.

Hey, Iz

Supposedly, that's some of Sam Vaknin's writing...   http://samvak.tripod.com/lovepathology.html

Perspective of N... huge grain of salt.

Love,
Hope

Do you know who wrote this?

A misanthropic, frustrated, envious, unromantic butthead?
Never mind, I see CH gave the same answer as me; Sam V. :P

Sounds like a "cerebral N" to me.

But I guess I have heard by the Dalai Lama that what many people perceive as love is really just "attachment".

Iz, he gives them what they ask for... and apparently someone can't get enough.

Recently I tried to research "cerebral narcissism". Numerous search hits, but every single one tagged with his name.

Vaknin has coined so many of the terms and so much of the lingo with reference to N that you'd think he invented it.

Guess he never noticed that Lucifer thunk of it first.

Love,
Hope

Lucifer lol

Well Vaknin must make his money and get his NS from all his followers.

I sure hate seeing his name always pop up in Google!

Yup yup, Iz... ole Lucifer, the Light-bearer. Most lovely of all the angels in heaven.... but wait, whose light was he reflecting?

Oh, the similarities...
2nd Corinthians 11:

12 But what I am doing I will continue to do, so that I may cut off opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the matter about which they are boasting. 13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness,
whose end will be according to their deeds.

And Izzy, here's a description of NPD you won't find on google... from the book of Jude:

But these men revile the things which they do not understand;
and the things which they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, by these things they are destroyed.

Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

These are the men who are hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear,
caring for themselves;
clouds without water, carried along by winds;
autumn trees without fruit,
doubly dead, uprooted;
wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam;
wandering stars, for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever...

These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage...

These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit.

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

Yup yup... NPD was thoroughly described long before Sam V.

wow Hope,

I don't remember reading that, but then didn't understand bible talk much, much to my chagrin. Shakespeare either.

I remember a lot of things, but must be reminded of them......................before I go shooting off on my own!

Just goes to show, with a stupid quote like that, that he's never been in love.

But then, he's an N, and they CAN'T love.

Izzy  and Hope-

Dearest Izz, your quote sounds just like what my NH used to say ( he was more crude and more cruel however) ; Hope , that verse from Jude describes my NH perfectly...both have really helped me to get grounded tonight. Thank you so much!

Love you guys,

Changing

Everything Sam V says always has such a merciless edge to it. Gratuitously razor-wired when barbed wire would do.

That said, I really agree with what he says, basically. I think all the passion and the woo-woo "in love" feeling are chemical and biological and hormonal. But that's okay, that's what we mean when we say I (heart) you. And we're made of the wonderful chemical and biological and hormonal and pyschological mud...from that, up we flop. It's when we honor those froggy feelings with our higher selves, and make commitments to the other's well-being, that it become spiritual, I think.

I don't know what romantic is any more. A man who acted like a tender loyal friend would be more than enough for me...

Hops,

"A man who acted like a tender loyal friend would be more than enough for me..."

I am incredibly lucky to have a man like this as my husband, and I am eternally grateful. :D :D :D

I never used to think men like him existed, when I lived with my Nboyfriend.

I'm so glad for you, Janet (and your H too as he is a lucky good guy!).

I'm geezer-huntin', myself. Got my name out there again.
Emails trickle in and I answer a few. No dates yet, no feeling of rush about it.
