Send love to my D?
« on: November 27, 2007, 10:55:12 AM »
Poor kid (27). She has been juggling 3 jobs to make it hand to mouth for two years and now she's been accepted into grad school a million miles away (Miami) and we've been talking a lot to try to find her a safe apartment sight unseen off the Net and scrounge up moving money and financial aid and then she gives one month's notice, very courteously, and one of the cat clinic docs where she works accused to her of lying to her because she hadn't told them she'd been accepted to the program. She held off telling them because she hadn't known if she'd be able to get together enough financial aid and loans and she gave them a full month's notice as soon as she did get the loan -- this doc was just irritated because it's an inconvenient time. D was really hurt, she works so hard and tries to bond everywhere.

Last night she called me and sobbed about how much she misses her dad. We talked about how if he had lived he'd be renting a truck and helping her move. She said I look at all his books and read all his notes and there's nothing. Just sobbed. She's overwhelmed.

So am I, a little.

Off to work.
love,
Hops

Hi Hoppy-

Your daughter is so fortunate to have you and your wisdom and love. Dr. Cat doesn't want their precious routine disrupted- what a stinker. Some lawyers will give themselves a $300,000 bonus , come in at 11 every day, if at all , and begrudge a worker $100 and federally mandated time off to care for their sick child. It's a good, albeit unpleasant, lesson to learn.

Is she studying to become a vet? How cool that she is going to grad school- Congratulations! I know it's scary and not fair that her daddy is not there to help and to support her, but in spite of it all she is a credit to him, to herself and to you!!!

Hoppy, you are a fabulous and understanding mom and friend. The best.

Love,

Changing

HOps,

Poor wee thing.  My heart goes out to her.  It sounds like she is overwhelmed by so much going on.  Glad she had her Mommy to call when she felt so scared.  I know how difficult it is to move and start over no matter how much you want the course.  Wishing her the very very best Hops,

xxxxxxx

Awwwwww, so sorry she's having a hard time, Hops.

She has a good mama standing behind her though..... these challenges will make her stronger in the end.

I didn't realize her father was gone.... passed away?

What a sad empty place that must leave in a soul.... to miss half of a self, like that.

She's grieving and that needs to be done ::nod::

((((Hops and D))))  Hope she gets past this and the excitement of the move carries her through.

Dear ((((( Hops and D )))))

My heart goes out to you both; to D for all her industrious efforts and feeling maybe a little tired and overwhelmed right now, and to you Hops for being there for D with the wisdom, understanding and compassion, and support, of a true mother.

Love, Leah

Hi Hops,

I'll remember your daughter in prayer. She is lucky to have you from the little I gather you are open-minded and kind hearted.

Take-care,
Lise

Thank you sooooooo much.
For an agnostic, I'm awfully convinced there is power in love sent.
Really, I mean it.

Thank you all.

Lighter, he died (horribly, liver failure after having gotten hepatisi in Africa during the Peace Corps, which sat simmering in his liver for decades, then roared awake when he was 53)...when she was 19. She went off the rails. And what hurts her now a lot is that her half-brother and step-brother, whom she adores, just kind of dropped her.

She said, I feel like I lost my Dad and my brothers at the same time.

I think contemplating a huge move on your own to a big not-very-safe city would bring out yearning for a father even in my little tough woman.

She is nuts about animals, but is pursing an M.A. in Criminal Justice with a research emphasis on African social/justice systems. She may want to teach, but I know she'll find out. I'm so proud of her.

thanks for sending her your thoughts and prayers, I don't know how but I do believe they help.
I really do.

gratefully,
Hops

I'm so sorry that happened to your daughter, Hops.

Losing her father and having her brothers pull away at the same time.

So unfair.

She'll figure out what she wants to do with her career and it scares me a little to think about being afloat in a new city by myself.

She's got you though..... she'll be OK (((Hops and D)))

Hiya Hops,

Just popped in here today and read your post.   Sending you warm thoughts and white light (I do miss Mum and all her white light too!).  If you're reading.......Hiya Mum!!

We feel pain when our kids feel pain eh?  It's the one nacissistic trait we mothers are allowed to exibit.  So sending you a large, huge, big, strong (((((((((((((((((((hug Hops)))))))))))))))))))).  'Cause all the worrying about and feeling for your D is a strain on you too.  Take care of you too, ok?

Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.   Hoping she will find a comfortable and safe place to live, that she will feel strong in herself and be able to manage on her own and that she will enjoy her all the days of education!  And that you will feel content and not have to worry so much.
