fish oil (Dr G, are you able to confirm?)
« on: January 03, 2008, 11:26:04 AM »
This is not just information, it is a personal URGE from me that everyone here at least TRY to take fish oil.

Here are some of the benfits of it:

heart health
prevention of heart attacks
prevention of heart disease

improved function of brain
lowered brain dementia
less depression
balanced moods

improved arthritis symptoms

less incidence of cancers

http://thefishoilzone.com/fish_oil_benefits.htm

Personally, I have seen 2 people that I know very well, before and after taking fish oil.  They personally don't always see the difference, but people whom they are around do notice.  These people, on fish oil, are easy going, pleasant to relate to, happy about life, calmer, clearer in their thinking, able to process things more realistically, and just overall are healthy mentally and psychologically.

I take Omega 3 in the form of flax, but will be using the actual fish oil version soon.  I can tell the difference in me, even by the way I have posted on this board.  When I don't take fish oil, I am argumentative, touchy, feisty, stubborn.  When I do, I am more likely to accept people's rights to disagree with me, have more energy to accomplish tasks, feel less ready to attack people verbally.

Please, I urge you all, at least try it.  Talk to your doctors first, but give it a try.

HERE ARE SOME MORE GOOD BENEFITS AND HOW IT ALL WORKS:

Health benefits of Omega-3s

Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for our health in a variety of ways.

Reduce risk of heart disease—Omega-3s are blood thinners and help to keep arteries elastic and flexible. They reduce high blood pressure, and keep triglycerides down.

Reduce risk of unwanted blood clots—Omega-6 based thromboxane aids in clotting, which stops blood loss from injuries. Omega-3s keep thromboxane in check, thus preventing unwanted blood clots that can cause strokes, heart attacks, deep-vein thrombosis and embolisms in lungs.

Lower blood pressure—Thromboxane also constricts arteries, leading to raised blood pressure. Omega-3s again keep thromboxane in check.

Reduce inflammatory diseases—Omega-3s are natural anti-inflammatory agents, so they act to prevent or reduce symptoms of arthritis, migraine headaches, menstrual cramps, and asthma.

Vision—Omega-3s are valuable both for the retina and blood supply through the tiny capillaries in the eyes.

Brain and mood—Omega-3s are an important constituent of the brain, especially DHA. In cultures that eat a lot of fish, the rate of depression is lower than in populations that don't, such as the US. Even though depression has many causes, making sure the brain has enough nutrients to function well is an obvious "no brainer."

Cancer—Omega-3s reduce the risk of cancer. They strengthen the immune system, which is the body's primary defense against the appearance of new cancerous cells. Omega-3s also make it harder for a tumor to metastasize to other areas of the body.

Reduce risk of osteoporosis—Bones are living tissue, constantly being broken down and rebuilt. Eicosanoids help to regulate the balance between osteoclasts, which break down bone, and osteoblasts, which rebuild it. Research indicates that healthy omega-3 levels contribute to rebuilding bone rather than losing it.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

basically, it improves blood flow, makes your blood platelets less sticky so they move more freely, promoting oxygen to different parts of the body, even the brain.

Every N oughta be forced to take this stuff in my opinion.  Maybe we'd see less abuse?

The first time I remember someone trying to explain good health and nutrition going hand in hand was when a bf, prolly 25 years ago.....

gave me a book explaining how flour, brought over on ships from the mother country, couldn't sustain rats, it was so bereft of nutrition.

He then followed up the book with a story about having his appendix removed, al la emergency.... and how traumatizing that was for him.

At some point, he taught me that a small pebble of hard poop had probably fallen INTO said organ and caused the whole problem..... thus leading back to diet and wheat products.

The next time I heard about this type thing..... again..... a man, who wanted to date me, showed up with a book on low odor, well formed poopy that floats and lots of information about colon cleansing.

He didn't get the date.

The next time I received instruction on nutrition and health.... I was buying a book on spontaneouse healing, by Andrew Weil.

He was more interested in well formed cells, with the ability to fight off free radicals...... very big on the Omega 3 fatty acids and low heat cooking, blue fruits and leafy greens.  He considered flour a weed, not meant for human consumption.

That was maybe 10 years ago?  Not sure what became of his research but I'm still interested in keeping my children's cells well formed and started with the micro nutrients along with a good multi vitamin.  I go through phases of pouring Flax Seed oil (good source of Omeg 3) on their food, but you already do that.

I take the fish oil along with the micro and multi vitamin (I just got a new one, highly recommended by my Neuro Muscular T called  Mindell Plus Vitamins)

The worse part about taking the fish oil capsules.....

are the burps  :x

Lighter,

I've heard that they now have burp-free fish oil.  I've been using the flax, but tomorrow I will try the actual fish oil

My fish oil is totally 'burp free". I could not take it if it wasn't. I have a "gross" factor that it would tip(lol)
It is Krill oil. You can get it from the Dr Mercola website. I like to support him b/c he does many innovative things .
Anyway, after one bottle, my skin  looked really good.I could see the difference, even though I didn't really have problems before. It was more glowing--hair, nails were better, too.
So, that is just the outside ,of course. I love it and would not be w/out it, if I can help it.       Ami

I take them on an empty stomach right before a meal. Voila; eruction free fish oil.
Without the meal its the pits. My wife makes me take them; I call them fish-gut pills with good reason.

Krill oil is great, and doesn't have many of the less desirable attributes of fish oil- less toxicity, pollutants, etc

Usually the fish gut pills, oy mud, only cause one or two shudder worthy burps.

Then it's over till the next day :)

Hi reallyMe,

The studies I've read or heard about are all positive (but please consult your physician).  I take them and my Golden Retriever, Beau, follows me around all day.  (Actually, he'd follow me around all day anyway.)

Best,

Richard

There is a relatively new product on the market called Coromega (see coromega.com for info and a free sample).  This product has superior benefits over flax seed oil (which I took for years until I learned about coromega this fall.)

My son takes it every day as well - I couldn't get the flax oil in him even by mixing it with things like yogurt.

Try coromega - free sample on the web site.
