Anyone see Dr Phil today? CYBER BULLIES
« on: January 08, 2008, 05:39:33 PM »
For any of us who think our online antics will not cause damage...there was a family on Dr Phil, whose daughter hanged herself because of what she thought was a young boy cyber-bullying her.  It turned out to be an adult female neighbor, her co-worker and 18 year old daughter that was jealous of the girl.

I think that the cyberspace world has real emotions and attachments. I can see how s/one went over the edge from a cyberspace experience, Laura.              Ami

Yes it was about Megan Meier and a black family who was being harassed while playing UNO and other games online.  It's ridiculous.

I can remember on Paltalk when I reported people for harassing others and me.  There was nothing they could do, other than to tell me to ban them from the chat room.  At least Paltalk has that feature.  Some online programs don't even have that capability, like Yahoo rooms.

((Ami))- I can see how you would understand. It amazes me, in a good and encouraging way that you are still here and still expressing your voice. It took some courage for me to post here again in concern for my safety, knowing that you were here and would never bully me helped to encourage me.

I realize and learned that I can choose what want to let in and what I do not want to let in. I can focus on what is positive and good and the other stuff I can just wish warmly well and politely turn away from.

The Megan Meier stuff has been talked about here on the board for a while now. I think cyber space can be even more ruthless than average because people can read their deepest unconscious issues into messages and situations without really knowing the real person(s) or truth behind the emails. It can or has the potential to be a real set up for pain and disaster.

Oh, Laura

A happy family sitting together as a family, can't be left alone to enjoy a family game site.

Power and Control thing again, I suspect.  Cruelty.

Thanks, Leah

Yes, it's just wrong.

I'm heading out to take my daughter to cheerleading soon and then I'm going out with my daughter's home school teacher/my best friend/former choir buddy.  We are going to have pie and coffee while she tells me about stuff going on in her life that she needs some support with.

Talk to you all soon
Hugs,
~Laura
