Have You Ever Read This?
« on: March 07, 2008, 12:33:03 PM »
Hi, everyone,
I wanted to pass this along in case anyone else is struggling with repeated patterns (self-sabotaging thoughts, behaviours, reactions, impulses, etc.) like I am.  I like this (found it on a website); it encourages me and honors/validates my struggles:

************************

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters - by Portia Nelson

Chapter I
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
      I fall in.
      I am lost...I am helpless.
            It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
      I pretend I don't see it.
      I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
            But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter III
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
      I see it is there.
      I still fall in...it's a habit...but,
            my eyes are open,
            I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter IV
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
      I walk around it.

Chapter V
I walk down another street.

***********

Love to all, Violet

PS Still sick with the flu (?) so not posting much....

Hi Violet,

Sorry you're under the weather.  I hear that flu is awful.  Isn't it always though?  Wish I could bring you a bowl of nutritious, soup comfort...

That street.  It sounds so familiar.  I walked it a lot.  Now am walking a different street.

Never read that before, but boy can I relate!

Get well soon,

tt

I love that, too, Violet. Some of us are slow learners but educable.

Get well soon.

((((((((( Violet ))))))))

Get well soon. Enjoy plenty of rest, as the Flu virus is awful, and takes a few weeks to fully recover from, you will experience highs and lows, in energy and well-being.

Thank you for posting the street walking guide ..... have walked the wrong way and down a dead end!!

Hopefully, I am now stepping out along the healthy way.   :)    Forever the optimist, well, that's what my dear friends tell me, with a smile.

Take care, Violet.

Hope you feel better soon, Violet.

I've read this before, but I love it.  Think I'll post it on my wall and then walk down a new street.

Thanks for posting this.

Thank you so much again, Violet.

I changed some fonts and colors and now, it's art!!

I'm putting it up on my wall.

Chapter 3 is my favorite:
      I still fall in...it's a habit...but,
            my eyes are open,
            I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Well, butter me up and call me a bisquit!

The author of those lines was so familiar with life.

Very encouraging Violet,

Thanks,

Papillon

Vital and truth-filled point Izzy, very wise words.

Hi violet

I'm sorry you are ill with the flu.  :(

I have read that before, but it is worth reading over and over until one takes a different street.

Then it's worth reading over and over becasue one has taken a different street,

take good care
Izzy

Thanks
Papillon

You guys are so awesome!  Laughing and crying at the same time here!
I am really feeling craptastic (my son's word, very descriptive, don't you think?) and I have to buck up and leave town again next week.  Fell into depression today, and anger, I don't know why.  Have not been really depressed in a while and it surprised me, but was pretty familiar territory.  Hope you are all making it through; going to catch up on all of the posts on the board now.  Love and hope to all you dear folks, V

((((((( Violet )))))))))

Influenza virus can, does, do that, make one feel low in spirit, or a feeling of depression.  Tired and weariness is the aftermath of flu.

Take gentle care of you.
