I moved into this apt. building 6 years ago next month and the laundry room was open 24 hours a day, door open, never locked.
I don't know when it happened. It feels like 2 years,(maybe one because I have mentioned this on this Board) that a fire inspection ended up with the door (weighs 14 tons) closed at all times and locked.
I went to do my laundry today and it took me about 10 minutes to get in, which has been happening, so I decided to call the Fire Department and see if those rules were handed down to this building.
I went back down to retrieve my dryer load and the Female of the Supers (the boss, I think) was there vacuuming the dryer vents with big hoses all over the floor. I just popped a few wheelies right over them, even when she asked me to stop, and then I said, "Jagoda! I think you ought to tell me when you are doing things that affect me"--laundry room, garage, posting messages too high, people moving in and out, using the elevator that I need. She checked my dryer, all was dry, and she piled it into my basket.
I thanked her, told her she could clean out the vent, and that I had a complaint in with the Fire Dept.
When he called me I went a little overboard and said, that I went out only once a week in order to not end up with too much in the area of soiled clothing. My favourite 'dress' was a nightgpwn, and when I ran out of clean ones and towels, about once a month I did laundry, and described my trouble getting in.
He was shocked (aren't you with that believable lie?) said locking the door is NOT a fire regulation, and they could loosen the hinges on the door so it didn't 'break my nose or toes" every time it slammed in my face.
He checked his records while we we on the phone and mentioned her name--I said 'Yes" and he said to have her telephone him. This was all wrong!!
Do you know I believed Jagoda about the fire Regulations?
This is one I ought to win, but it took me long enough!
